there are others but they're low budget and just have limited releases. Most are dramas and that's not Hollywood's thing right now. What's in is action, Super Hero and Remakes that can use 3D.

Hey Will Smith, get your ass back in front of the camera and stop trying to pimp your kids out as the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'm sick and tired of your insistence on fabricating stardom on your kids just because they are YOUR kids.

Is it any wonder why studios like PIXAR garner so much critical and financial success??

Because--unlike Dreamworks--they DON'T hire The World's Most Obnoxious Narcissist, whose refusal to play any characterization in his parts, recent cinematic attempts to martyr himself on any nearby tree, and whose dreams of a world-conquest dynasty have created one of three celebrities whose mouth we the public would so dearly love to stuff a suspiciously-filled sock into?

(Translation: It ain't Evil Hollywood coming up with this idea....We have a NAME to our pain. And if you bought a copy of I Am Legend, you support such terrorist acts.

Clearly Nolan didn't steal Inception from a Donald the Duck comic, oh wait http://www.cracked.com/article_19021...seriously.html lol

I think I've lost all respect for Will Smith. I am going to make a movie version of Fresh Prince and I'll play Will and cast Jon Header as Carlton.

Will Gluck Lands 'Annie' Directing Job

The sun will come out tomorrow for Will Gluck.

The Easy A and Friends with Benefits filmmaker has won the job to direct Sony’s adaptation of Annie.

Annie, while in essence based on the classic comic strip Little Orphan Annie, is a translation of the Broadway musical that first opened in 1977. The project is being produced by Will Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment banner partner James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith as well as hip-hop artist Jay-Z. Also prodiucing are Jay Brown, and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith through Marcy Media.
Willow Smith, who was originally slated to star in the film, is not attached.

Gluck’s ascension to the top of the list caps an active hunt for a helmer that has gone on for months, with names such as Ryan Murphy and Craig Brewer coming and going. Willow Smith is no longer attached to star.

The story, set in modern day, follows an orphan girl who is taken in by wealthy entrepreneur Daddy Warbucks as a way to rehabilitate his image. She eventually wins over his heart.

The musical, which was turned into a 1982 movie, is known for songs such as It’s a Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow.

Gluck will revise a script previously written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. Sony is eyeing a late fall production start for an anticipated release in 2014.

Gluck wrote and directed Friends with Benefits, which starred Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. He directed Emma Stone in her breakthrough role in Easy A, a modern-set high school retelling of The Scarlett Letter. He is repped by UTA and Sloane Offer.

Not upset to see Willow is no longer attached to star. Interested to see how this turns out...I like 'Easy A', but I didn't really enjoy 'Friends with Benefits', so he's a toss up as director for me.

So I guess Willow will have to sport an afro in this film since Annie does have some fluffy curly hair.

Sounds like a good role for Willow - I would see it.

They should cast Aileen Quinn as Hannigan or Grace.

Time for the girl from Beasts Of The Southern Wild to get another 15 minutes of fame.

and Will Gluck, I love you but this project sounds ridiculous. Go back to teen comedies.

Man, Hollywood is really running out of ideas if they're remaking things with this much frequency. I wish they'd just start churning out some original ideas -- or at least slightly more original than remaking and rebooting all the time -- and prove that they still are the "Dream Factory" and not just the "Recycle Plant".

Default Annie Remake Starring Willow Smith

Hollywood has been remaking movies since its inception. It's nothing new, but everyone makes it out like it is. It's not that uncommon, and there are literally hundreds of movies released a year that are original ideas, but you don't focus on that, you focus on the remakes and sequels instead. That's the problem.

If you want original films, support the original ideas and independent cinema. That's the best way to get the word out. Enjoy those films, and you'll be a lot happier and notice how many original ideas come out a year.

People aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

Like Walt said plenty of other films come out, but those of you never pay attention to that. And if you do you end up calling it stupid for what it was. People are just never happy unless they're miserable.

If you don't like remakes, the best thing you could do is not talk about them. Because even in the end when you say Hollywood is useless, you're talking about them no matter what.

Sequels and remakes have been made since the beginning of cinema - it's nothing new. It did not start in the 1970s with Godfather 2 and Empire Strikes Back. Look back to the 1930s.

I'm not saying that Hollywood hasn't always remade films, but there's no denying they're doing it with much more frequency now than at any other point in history -- at least, back then, remakes and sequels were in the minority of releases but now they make up the majority. And with this I'm not talking about indie cinema, but just Hollywood releases - films made by the large studios. Indie cinema brings out some amazing gems - and so does Hollywood at times - and most releases are either original or a twist on a clichéd idea.

Articles like this explain it much better than I ever could, but the signs are there; it's not that Hollywood can't make original films or have lost their way, like some suggest, but simply that they know there is already a fanbase for sequels and remakes, so they're more guaranteed to make money. I don't blame them because I'd do the same in their position, but it does get quite frustrating when people choose to ignore or dismiss it.

Also, I'd just like to add that I'm not someone who thinks a remake takes anything away from the original - it doesn't affect my viewing of the original at all and, if it turns out to be good, it's a win-win situation. And I'm sorry for taking this thread so far off the rails, too.

...THAT Emma Thompson? The vanity-producer of Nanny McPhee?

I agree: Gluck, cut your losses. I'm more worried about her than I am about Smith & Dynasty, Inc.
I have a feeling I already know who's playing Miss Hannigan, as if her hamming it up in MIB3 wasn't enough.

Please, no. There is so much going against this project for me to even think about seeing it. Annie is supposed to be cute redhead. That just doesn't work with Willow Smth. But if we have to throw away the defining characteristic of the main character just to get a certain stars daughter in the role, then I guess it is more important that she find fame then the movie actually gets enough sales to break even financially.
