Default SATA-2 HDD's on PS3?

Can Sata-2 hard-drives be used on the PS3?

I plan on getting a new HDD, preferebly 250Gb+ and a good brand.

I don't know which brand's are the best when buying HDD's. But I think Hitachi is a good brand though, right? I heard Hitachi was gonna release a 320Gb HDD, has it been released yet?

Thanks guys

PS. When backing up your PS3 hard-drive in the XMB menu, does it also backup Linux OS? Or must I install Linux all over again when I using the new HDD on my PS3?

there is no such thing as sata2. those drives will work tho.

SATA 1.5 Gbit/s
SATA 3.0 Gbit/s

those are the 2 types of sata drives. 3.0 gets called sata 2 for some reason. but there is no sata 2

I plan on just keeping my 80GB in and just hook up a 500GB external to my PS3.It seems like less hassel not to mention more wallet friendly I agree on the reccomendation of the Samsung drive but I have more faith in the WD HDDs

you're either going to get a good drive or a bad one. the company who makes it really doesn't matter.

a bigger internal drive is more practical tho

To be safe, SATA 3.0 GB/s works with the PS3 right?

i'm pretty sure the ps3 is sata-150. so if you stick a sata-300 drive in there, it'll run at 150 speeds. won't be a problem tho

You might do some research into external drive compatibility with the PS3 if you want to do that. I've read there are some size limitations due to the drive format the PS3 requires for external drive.
