Default Quick question Onkyo 605 volume

What is the normal volume level for an Onkyo 605? My old Onkyo if I went above 40 it was loud. My new Onkyo 605 I watch TV at 50 or so, movies are at 55-60. It sounds great but I am wondering is there is something wrong. Over time I had to increase the volume of my old Onkyo. Is 50 normal with a new 605? I am pushing the same Bose cubes I did with the old receiver.

Thanks for any input.

I recently bought the 705 i chose the 705 over the 605 for the music power.

at the store where i bought it, i first listend to the 605 and i turned the volume to about 70 at that point i tought it was loud but not verry loud. and the max volume of the 605 is 100 so that is wy i bought the 705 for the more music power it can produce.

So to awnser your question, i think it is normal for the onkyo 605

(sorry if i made any spelling mistakes)

Thanks for the reply. I wanted the 705 but the 605 had the price. To be honest the 905 was the wish.
( I still want that True HD or DTS HD to light up, but I can wait for a firmware update on the PS3)
I was just worried that something was not right and I might need to return this unit.

Default This is Spinal Tap

I couldn't resist!

From This is Spinal Tap

Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

i olso noticed that the ps3 does not play ddhd i'am wondering wy? i olso placed the question in a other topic.

i have the ps3 connected the the onkyo with a monster 4.95 gbps hdmi, but the ps3 only playes dd when i select ddhd. and i olso noticed that when i am in the xmb the receiver says it receives a 7.1 pcm but only the front speakers play.

so maybe i need a hdmi cable that can do 10.2 gbps?

I'm not to shore about the hdmi, but I do know that there is a different in the ps3 settings between bit stream and Linner. Bit stream will allow the Dolby digital and the DTS light to come on, but only that. The Liner setting allows for the passing of uncompressed, lossless, and ddthd. ( I think the uncompressed sound better on fifth element and super bad of ddthd) the Onkyo 605 displays pcm digital but you are hearing the correct track I've been told.

as far as i know, what you say is correct, but ddhd is a bitstream audio format. and when i set my ps3 to linear pcm, it convertes the ddhd track to pcm, as wel as every bitstream track dd and dts. even when you play a sd dvd.

But i payed plenty of money for the 705 and i want the ddhd to be lit up! so how can i acomplish that with my ps3?

Because when i set the ps3 to lpcm i do not notice any diference with ddhd or lpcm.

Afyer reading your guys posts I'm starting to wonder if my 805 is completely out of wack because I have to keep my volume around 25 for the most part; with going down in number to increase the volume level; eg, 20 is louder than 25... Is this normal or is there something wrong with my settings??

I have the Onkyo 805 and normally have the volume anywhere between 50 and 60 for BD playback.

For some reason, my Comcast DVR box needs less volume. (around 45)

You can chance the volume display, by absolute to relative.
If the setting is set to absolute, it wil go from 0 to 100 (if i'am not mistaken)
If the setting is set te relative, it wil go from -80 to ..... (never tested that )

At the store where i listen to the 605 and 705 they had the setting to absolute.

Had my home with smaller speakers, and a smaller room ik will have the volume about -25 -20 for loud music and bd movies, when i play games i put it on about -45 to -35 (relative) i got the 705
