Bogo is not for competed w/ HDDVD (otherwise why WB offered BOGO for both format?)

It is for fighting w/ DVD.

Header reminds me of one conversation I had on Usenet--
(The DVD group has been too traumatized by '06 PS3 Gamer-d00dz doing fanboy shills for Blu, and now shouts down any pro-Blu news with more draft-dodging, cheap players and "It's just a niche!" apathy)

On the subject of trying to rationalize why Warner's statement "wasn't really important":
Poster: "Let's assume for the moment that this may be the death-knell for HD-DVD--"
Me: (Nathan Lane from "Producers") "ASSUME away... "

If they want mass HDM adoption, you can be sure that there will be more deals in the future.

Retail prices need to drop. $30-$40 discs won't sell, but $15-$20 discs will!

The war is now with DVD.

If the movies retail for $19.99 (like DVDs now) all that is needed is a coordinated marketing campaign to line up with the off air shutdown in 2009.

Marketing can make DVDs look like analog off air and Blus like the "new" all digial signals available now to go with your HDTV.

When momentum builds, you can start offering blu exclusive content.

This is how to sell it to the masses and bring back the revenue previously generated by DVDs.

Lightbulb I agree - War is against standard DVDs

I agree with several folks in this thread, now that WB has gone Blu-Ray only (in May), this format war with HD-DVD is over, and we can move on to the real ENEMY: Standard DVDs.

With one clear choice (Blu-Ray) all the fence-sitters can feel good about jumping on the Blu-Ray Bandwagon. We need to continue to spread the word about Blu-Rays to all those folks out there who, due to a lack of knowledge, are too scared to go Hi-Def. They are content to buy their cheap $7 DVDs at Wal-Mart and watch their movies on a sub-$100 Upconverter. Now everyone can go Blu!

I compare this Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD format battle to the battle between XM radio and Sirius radio. Their real enemy wasn't each other but rather it was the standard "free" radio stations. People would say "I'm not gonna PAY to listen to a radio station". Last I heard XM and Sirius were going to merge.

I agree with you folks a lot people don't even know about blue ray movies, like coachD says cheap regular dvds are good for a few of my co-workers.
I think the best move for blue rays is to lower the prices on movies and that way more people will be into THE BLUE SIDE!!!!
