Ok, you guys are wasting typing room. There is nothing wrong with the dude's PS3. The system locks up because he's overheating the system! Get some air around it and let it breathe. It won't lock up. They're known for doing that.

And stop worrying about the dude's receipt problem. You're just wasting drive space on the blu-ray.com servers!

Your luck can run out. It's as simple as that.

Despite that, the OP's best recourse is to start wrangling through Ebay and doing it that way if the seller fudges and/or can't come up with a receipt.

No receipt? No proof of purchase? No manufacterer is under any obligation to provide you a damned thing. It's very simple, really.

Luck has nothing to do with it... it's about buying from a company that sticks by their product, not looking for a loophole so that don't have to take care of the said product..... They need to see a receipt why? To prove what? He has a ps3, it's not working that's all they should need to know. I didn't have a receipt for my ipod but did apple care when I had a problem? NO, I went to the apple store right by me in SOHO they looked at the serial on the back made sure it's still under the one year warrant and that's it they took care of my problem. I like blu-ray I really do but sony is know for doing horrible things to their customers, and I'm just mad because this could be me and I would hate to be treated like that.

You know what? You're right. This is the way it should be, if all else fails.

BTW, that's another big plus in the column for Apple impressing me right there. Just as an aside.

My only concern here would be: What if this PS3 were stolen goods?

Well if it was stolen he shouldn't have a working ps3 end of story... lol, I think Sony should check the serial and see who register the PS3 they can lookup date registered and who owns it at the same time.
