![]() ![]() Money For Nothing Blu-ray Money For Nothing Blu-ray Review Well i just got my copy from Amazon this morning and i noticed right away that the Blu-ray is 1.78 AR while the DVD is 2.35. This is a HUGE error on Mill Creeks part and i'm curious as to why this has happened. I popped the DVD in and it's obvious that the film is cropped for the Blu-ray. I'm a huge fan of this movie and this is VERY disappointing!! Last edited by Deciazulado; 03-06-2012 at 09:11 PM. |

You're welcome.
This is ashame because it seemed Mill Creek was doing a fairly ok job with these discs. Hopefully someone will be able to do some screen comparisions but it's pretty noticeable from what i checked. I was hoping to ditch my DVD but now i may have to hold onto it. ![]() |

Looks like same as the Miramax, the have the Hi Def Cable TV tranfers that are matted. Could be this is the only one in the batch that is not 1:85. Too bad, I thought they were doing a semi decent job. I'll hold off on any future titles until I get feedback.

Given the hit or miss 1080i/1080p transfers and all of them being DTS HD MA 2.0 tracks rather than 5.1, it looks like Mill Creek is just releasing whatever is given to them rather than implementing any type of company quality control (the erroneous tech specs on the back covers demonstrate little care even over the things they do have control over). It may just be luck that any of their releases are even a step above something like Echo Bridge just by default of having access to better, in comparison, masters to encode (with credit to not tinkering further to overcompensate). Otherwise, if they can't control what they receive for masters and/or can't, or won't, spend what it would take to remaster some of their possibly higher selling titles that might warrant that kind of expense (and if Echo Bridge doesn't do so for things like From Dusk Till Dawn or Equilibrium, I'm not hopeful Mill Creek will either), their releases might continue to vary wildly in quality. |

Found this thread while looking for a review. The title just dropped to $5.49 and I was interested (blind buy) just for the cast listing alone. Oh well, I guess I will have to pass due to the AR issue.
![]() For those of you "lucky enough" to already own this copy, post a review or comment- the page has no reviews/comments and if not for my super skills of scrolling to the bottom of the page to find this thread, I would be out $5.49. (Better save my money - bought Enter the Dragon for $6 and NOW I am reading about the jaggies. Also just found out about Event Horizon ($6) vertical stretching issues)- oh well there went $12! |

It'll be the next wave that'll determine if Mill Creek is using whatever is handed to them or there is some QA going on as there are native Dolby Digital 5.1 films being released. |

The Event Horizon Blu-ray is excellent, the stretching issue is hardly noticeable. It really only looks odd in one or two brief scenes, otherwise it almost adds a bit of mystery and atmosphere to the movie. |

A great resource indeed, and I am sure a lot of work has gone into it. If you port that over here in a thread, please let me know - I would help where possible.
Having a concise list of problem Blus or Blus with just plain crappy transfers would be welcome indeed. I will typically avoid crappy transfers, and will scour the technical aspects of reviews before even pulling the trigger on $5 Blus. I bought Enter the Dragon based on the reviews on the movie's title page - no one mentioned the jaggy issue - but I found out more when I dug into the thread. It still hasn't shipped and I might change my mind on it anyway. Again, let us know if that thread gets brought this way - many would appreciate it and I'm certain it would be destined for "sticky" status! ![]() Geo |

So would it be better off just to buy the dvd that comes with 2 other movies (Disorganized Crime and Another Stakeout) for the same $5 as the blu ray? I really like Money For Nothing and consider it to be Cusack's most underrated/overlooked movie (though I am a huge Cusack fan).

there's a few shots where it really stands out (some of the screenshots on this site are from those moments where it does) but for the $6 they had it for last week i can overlook it since there probably won't be a new transfer for some time
