Ah, The Hangover Part II; a sequel that apparently everyone wanted to see based on the box office records it is about to break this opening weekend. They were probably thinking that same thought while coming up with this sequel. I understand completely that you should not deviate too far from the path that made you successful in the first place, but were they really that lazy that they had to use most of the same jokes and situations over again. It is downright pathetic if you were to sit down and compare the two films side by side.

I will be one of the first to say that I thought the original was a hysterical good time. It was a hidden gem that blind-sided you so hard; you could not breathe at times. It was that sense of freshness mixed with a cast with great chemistry that made the film so damn fun to watch, but all of that goes out the door here. That sense of mystery in the first one went by quick because the transition between scenes was smooth, but they rehash the exact same scenario here. Get drugged, wake up with another hangover, find the missing person by retracing your steps, after they call it quits, a sudden epiphany occurs and you save the day at the last possible minute. I am not going to say some of the scenes were not funny because I laughed quite a bit, but at the same time I found myself bored just as much. This wasn’t new; I get the basic storyline, but I just don’t understand why they had to constantly throw the first films jokes at you. When they did throw new material at you, it was funny, even hilarious, but they just didn’t do it enough to have this stay afloat.

Getting to watch the characters throughout another shenanigan was exciting to see, but once again I find myself wondering the originality of them again. Alan, the obvious fan-favorite, is hit and miss this time around. When the joke works, you’ll be laughing pretty hard, but when he misses, you get that long awkward phase that seems to last an eternity. His little remarks that made the first so great seemed to disappear here. Phil gets the best dialect here and Bradley Cooper plays that cocky dude o so well. Last is Ed Helms as Stu who is the worst of the bunch because if you think about him, he literally gets the exact same jokes except a minor thing is changed. He sings his stupid song, gets a tattoo instead of losing a tooth, and ends up with the girl. He was the weakest of the pack. If it were just the three in the film, it wouldn’t have been a problem but the side characters are just ****ing brutal. I don’t understand how Chang ever became so popular. He was great in a tiny dose, but to give him a good thirty minutes of screen time was an absolute mistake, everything funny about him was wrapped up with at the end of the first. And his introduction into the film was disgusting, not funny. That damn monkey kept getting laughs from the crowd that I was in, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I guess I don’t find a smoking monkey all that funny. Throw in Mike Tyson and the final throw the original in your face was complete, but I was half expecting Black Doug to somehow make an appearance with just how bizarre that turned out characters.

The Hangover 2 is good for a few laughs, but it just doesn’t hold a candle to the original. I’d have a hard time recommending this too a non-Hangover fan, but at the same time fans of the first might feel just as cheated as I. If you absolutely must, have a go at the film, but my advice is to back off and just go see Bridesmaids since it fits the bill as the same brand of comedy, but with a far more fresh perspective. If The Hangover Part 2 doesn’t wind up being the worst comedy of the summer, I will surely be disappointed.

Overall Score: 4.5/10

I went to see it again last night for a second time and there was a couple beside and the girl had her cellphone out and I politely asked her to put it away. As soon as the movie gets out and I go out side, they're in their car and the guy starts yelling at me and threatening to kill me. I went back inside and the theater called police and I had to give a statement. So, yeah, I didn't have fun watching it the second time around.

Wow, some people. I don't think it's asking too much to put away your cell phone.

Maybe next time use a spoiler tag on that, not that it's the "revelation" of the movie.

This is why I don't go to movies anymore. I have no patience to begin with and people can be complete *******s. Sorry to hear that. I will just wait for it to come to video.

I agree with the consensus here. This movie just felt a little too forced, and it was exactly like the first one. A few good laughs here and there but as far as comedies go, it didn't touch Bridesmaids, which is the comedy of the year if you ask me.

Thumbs down Worst SEQUEL of the Year

Sequels may not have to be better than their originals, but they should be just as good as the original... THE HANGOVER PART II was by far the "Worst Sequel of the Year," maybe even decade; Yet, the decade is still young.

Apart from them recasting everyone in this installment, nobody, and I mean nobody, was funny in this sequel. Alan, played by Zach Galifianakis, wasn't your ignorant / silly / or stupid funny kind of guy, he was just plain awful and really annoying. It seemed that Todd Phillips and Co. were trying to duplicate the original, but from a different part of the world, but that didn't happen here. Giving more screentime to Ken Jeong, as Mr. Chow, wasn't necessary and they should have came up with a better plot than what was told. "OneLiners" were what made PART I so unique and PART II was missing just that. PART I had style... the music, the people, the dialog, the comradery, the "not knowing what to expect"... but THE HANGOVER PART II felt empty, nevertheless, that's what was ALL missing from PART II. To put it in simple terms, THE HANGOVER PART II's "Trailers" are maybe what's to blame for the movies "lack-there-of," after watching them, there wasn't really that much left to tell Trying to recreate a movie, like the BACK TO THE FUTURE franchise, telling a different story, with the same formula, just didn't work for this franchise. Unfortuately, trying to do the same thing and expect the same results didn't happen either. I sadly have to say that I'm sticking with PART I as the only installment that is out there; For me, it will stand alone. I can't even remember the last time a comedy-sequel was this bad (maybe Ace Ventura 2 : When Nature Calls)

HANGOVER PART II was by far the worst movie I've seen this year.

BTW: Even DUE DATE was funnier and more interesting to watch than this was Maybe Todd Phillips should have spent more time in pre-production for this film than he did on DUE DATE... but I guess, if you've already established a foundation, then there isn't really anything to prove; These days just create one movie and then people will want to see more (maybe)

Your Top Movie of 2001 (So Far)

About the same as the original, maybe slightly less funny. I gave it 4 stars but was stuck between 3 and 4. The monkey was my favorite part My expectations were really low going in due to all the negative hype and was pleasantly surprised.

I expected
[Show spoiler]more from the Stanford kid but it never materialized.. Tyson's part on this one was just stupid unlike the first one.

Not when I saw it either... since THE HANGOVER PART II is considered a comedy, the trailers I saw were... FRIGHT NIGHT (surprisingly), THE CHANGE-UP, HORRIBLE BOSSES, and THE GREEN LANTERN... which is funny, because I honestly think those titles will do well compared to THE HANGOVER PART II

I saw all of those, minus Green Lantern and saw Shark Night instead. Yeah, that looked good.

The Hangover Part II

The Hangover was so good that it set a high bar for itself (and other comedy movies) so I wasn't expecting the sequel to be just as good and like I expected, it wasn't. A good portion of the movie were basically rehash jokes from the previous film, but I did enjoy the throwbacks and them being smart and doing stuff that would either try to prevent or fix a similar situation that happened to them. The film didn't suck, but to those that thought it was better than Part 1, I strongly disagree with that assessment as I thought the movie was decent at best.

Likes:

- The I.H.O.P. scene

- Doug getting more screentime

- Mr. Chow's return
[Show spoiler]I like how him and Alan are buddies now. That was a cool change. I'm glad he got more screentime, but seriously, he made the movie again. He needs to come back for the next one and get even more screentime or have his own movie. Ken Jeong is gold!

- Teddy. He didn't get much screentime obviously, but the character has a lot of potential)

- Poor Stu
[Show spoiler]when he finds out he had drunk sex with a tranny (played by TS pornstar Yasmin Lee). They were in Asia so I should've seen it coming, but I didn't...so expect my shock, horror, and dismay along with everybody else when I saw penis again because the writers thought Mr. Chow's dick being shown beforehand wasn't enough.

- Paul Giamatti

- The car chase scene

Dislikes:

- Jamie Chung is hot, but I really liked Heather Graham's character and it sucks she didn't come back for this one.

- I was glad to see Doug come back, but he should've been part of the misadventure so he could've experience what its like to try to find somebody after a night of being intoxicated.

- Whoever played the tattoo artist did okay, but I really wanted to see Mel Gibson or Liam Neeson in the cameo role, that would've been great to see!

- Mike Tyson's cameo (It was funny in the first one. Him coming back was
unnecessary and felt forced.

With that said, if they do make a Part 3, it will be interesting to see if they will have the guts to try to get Alan's character married since he is now the sole survivor of the group when it comes to being a bachelor.
