Default Any PS3 playback problems with the 1.5 firmware?

I've been experiencing some problems with the recent 1.5 firmware similar to those described in the following threads:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=795433

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...cending&page=1

Anyone else here had any problems?

I purchased a brand new PS3 on Friday, put in a brand new Saw 3 and it froze once. I upgraded to 1.5 before playing it. Must be a firmware issue. Sony will fix it.

no problems here

correction:
after posting, i played KOH and it did lock up. i stopped playback and restarted and haven't had an issue since.

correction 2:
shortly after updating my last post, i ended up freezing two or three times. it seems to be really intermittent. sometimes it works with no problems and others have lots of freezes.

Wow. I'm sure glad I waited this time.

I rushed into 1.30 only to see the freeze up happen once (gone by 1.31).

I wonder if the 1.30 problem creeped into 1.50. It happens all the time in software. The patch wasn't applied to the base code.

Can't beleive the post. I bought fifth element yesterday, and it froze twice during play. I thought I bought a defective movie, now I wonder if its the recent update.

good call on not rushing in gary.

im wondering, has anyone else noticed the lack of bass with the latest update as well? my sub used to be rocking and rolling during movies and games and now nothing. i just moved my setup onto a stand so i was thinking i didn't hook my sub up properly but when i did an lfe test, no problems.

Everyone with the problem: contact Sony

The sooner they realize this is impacting a lot of people, the sooner we may get a fix (nice theory anyway)

ok, just hooked up my sammy to check the issue with my sub. anyway, everything seems to be working great but i haven't really pushed it yet.

i'm watching mi3 right now but haven't gotten to any loud parts yet... will confirm if issue exists in about five mins.

update:
sub good. anyone else experience this issue? if not, it is my ps3 and some setting or something somewhere.

Are we sure it is the firmware and not a hardware issue? When I first bought my PS2 (first US release version) I ran into lots of problems playing DVDs and had to send it in to be replaced.

I've had this freeze problem with 2 movies - Reds (firmware 1.5) and Dinosaur (firmware 1.3). I can only hope it is a firmware issue - but am concerned that I've seen on both versions so far.

I thought it might be the disc, but now I say it isn't.

akadkins,
i didn't have a single issue until the latest firmware while ill consider a hardware issue, im more inclined to believe that it is software.

Exactly.

The only hiccup I've had has been post install of 1.50 where I had a literally one second hiccup during a portion of the Making Of segment on the Black Rain BD.

The audio continued uninterrupted, the picture blinked black where it shouldn't have for maybe one second, and then all was well.

As is usual with the vast majority of discs: The making of features are not in HD. *shrugs* I don't know if that means anything or not.

Since installing 1.5 I watched Black Rain, Transporter 1, and Four Brothers without any incident.

I took 1.5 the first day it was out. Was that about a week ago or so?

I'm HDMI all the way now.

You may or may not remember that I had upgraded to the Yamaha RXv2700 back in December (WOW!).

No bass issues of any kind. No LFE issues of any kind.

I remember when I had the Toshiba XA1 over the summer and was connected via multichannel analogs to the HK 635. That sucker had immediately noticeable sound issues that were bass and LFE related. <- The kind of complaints you've seen everyone talk about.

It's the kind of thing where you don't even have to be that sensitive to sound and if you have the problem you're going to notice it pretty quickly.

I am pretty sensitive and picky, so that only made things that much worse.

I just never could get the damned thing to sound right. I never even had to bother with any sound meters or anything. It just wasn't right and it was easily noticeable.

I haven't had that problem yet with the PS3 or any disc.

Footnote: Before I upgraded receivers, I had used the PS3 via optical to the HK 635 and also noticed NO LFE or bass issues.

I tend to go with the school of thought that generally blames the first gen optical players for these LFE and bass issues, not the receivers.

jtk,
i remember that upgrade you got. still very jealous

i didn't have any issues until after the firmware upgrade. i'm wondering if some hdmi something is going on. i'm tempted to do a backup and then a factory settings restore (or something similar) to at least eliminate that as a variable. i did have my bro and his friend in town this past weekend and they downloaded literally every demo game out there. so there is no telling what else the idiots might have done.

I've had some lockup issues with my PS3 after I downloaded the last update but interestingly enough it was while playing the game Resistance. I don't know which update it was but it was during the last week and it was required to play RFOM online so I downloaded it.

Afterwards I started having lockup issues. It seems to happen once or twice a session and sometimes not at all. I've played A LOT since Nov. and never once had a freeze. After this update it's frozen often so I'm positive it was in the last update and it seems to affect games and movies the same.

ok, well it seems my playback problem with the sub dealt with the -10db issue. not sure why, when, how this came up but whatever. i was able to correct it by editing my speaker settings. i have to test it more at home (at work now), but it seems to have been introduced with the new firmware.

edit:
ok, this was partially true. there really was not an lfe problem. however, there was some issue (read setting) somewhere dealing with low sub levels or something. i did a system restore and that fixed that issue. however, when i moved all my equipment the other day, somehow all of my speaker settings on my receiver reverted to the factory settings. who knows why. anyway, i fixed that as well and now my ps3 seems to be running fine.

i have only experienced the lockup issue with KOH so far, i'm experimenting now and know it didn't work right when i tried a chapter jump to chapter 30 from the main menu. i haven't tried skipping there yet. not sure why, but it is an issue so far.

I watched MIII this past Sunday with the update installed and it froze but it went back, however, to play from the frame it stopped in under a minute. I did not do any attempt to check what's going on.

ok, seems the freezeups are a pretty widespread problem. it has to be a software rather than hardware problem.
