Default When Universal goes Blu

Do you guys expect them to release their already encoded movies they released on HD DVD rather quickly or slowly overtime?

I really want Serenity Casino and Breakfast Club. Casino and Breakfast Club are big movies and Serenity was a huge huge huuuuuuge seller on DVD and HD DVD, so I would imagine those 3 to be rather quick.

to maximize sales, studios will release a few at a time

I think it will have to be the "slowly over time" option due to the technical considerations. In fact I would be alarmed if they all came out quickly - we need good Blu releases, not just crappy ports from the HD-DVD versions.

Yes, another good point. They won't want to release dozens all at once and have them competing with each other.

When Universal goes Blu...

...they can shove their existing encodes where the sun doesn't shine. It was a disgrace, even by HD DVD standards. They'd better come to Warner and Sony and ask for high-bitrate AVC or VC-1 reencoding if they can't do it themselves.

Otherwise, I'd welcome them with open arms, and purchase dozens of titles. Hopefully starting with PROPERLY DONE Battlestar Galactica!

ALL studios need to start a full court press to get releases out by xmas of 08.

07 xmas was considered a bust in hd media all together. A strong xmas needs to happen to show that studios uniting was for the better.

I bet you though that Serenity will have at least a 3:1 sales ratio compared to that of its HD-DVD counterpart!

I think it will be slowly considering the amount of movies they released on HD DVD. Plus, I wouldn't mind them holding off on those and bringing some others that haven't been released on High Def yet. You know, like Jurassic Park, Jaws, BTTF, etc.

I fear you're right. But then I won't buy them, and it's not like I'll be out of options...

Many of the current encodes are perfectly fine and look amazing, so I don't think anyone would complain, or should complain.

Yes but you're format neutral...eew. J/K...I'm sure some of them are great, but Battlestar really took a hit in the PQ.

Ah, haven't seen Battlestar so I can't say on that one. I've tried to get the ones that had great PQ and stay away from the bad ones.

They might want to redo their hd dvd titles now in order to make a big first impression, and to influence people who are going from red to blu to repurchase.

This would be interesting, but I'm not sure it would happen. There may be some higher profile titles that they may want to beef up though.

Can we just wait until there is news about this? Otherwise it is extreme idle speculation.

+1. I agree with you on this one. Let's wait until we hear some news on this from an insider or Ben, Peter, or Josh. IF there is an announcement of them going nuetral then I would probably get Dazed and Confused and Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Then again we have Superbad which I thought was absolutely hilarious.

they can take their time releasing movies for all I care...

the majority of the movies they have release look mediocre...

I'd rather have AVC encodes and wait than have a whole bunch of movies looking like an upscaled DVD...

This thread is ALSO on the Blu-ray Releases section of this site. Geez. Are the moderators all on vacation? This whole subject is nothing more than mental onanism.
