I wouldn't say that the movie necessarily would be worth $35 to everyone here, definitely me though, but I would say that the visuals would definitely be worth it alone.

All I can say is, it's now my favourite title on Blu-ray. Jaw droppingly stunning, will have to watch it again sometime, and the DTS running at 1.5 Mbps (best my receiver's gonna do) sounded stunning too.
Great use of surrounds and bass.
Now I'll save the extras for another time...
Man, if this title were a burger I'd eat it.

I was impressed when I saw that movie in the theater. The ending didn't do it for me, but that's just me. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Blu-ray.

Definitely improving for me over time, more time to chew the cud so to speak, not to mention the ending never bothered me too much anyway... and I have my own theory as to the visuals at the very end .

But damn, I want to get a 1080P projector and better receiver just for this film.

Default Sunshine - Worth buying??

Hey I saw in the poll a lot of user interest in Sunshine and that the review was up on this site so I started reading down to where it said to give away any of the movie would be a disservice to the viewer. So my question is after having my interest sparked enough to watch this movie, is it a keeper, worth purchasing? Will I want to rewatch it once I have seen it through or will it just be a, oh I know what happens in the end and just own it to turn others onto it?

Are you going to want to watch again after your first time? You're going to have to watch it again. It's kind of like M:I in that regard. There are things that you might not have caught the first time around. Maybe it's not that complicated, but it's definitely a good enough movie to buy.

Question Sunshine "AVC@16mbps"?

How come Sunshine's back cover says encoded in AVC@16mbps when everyone says the PQ is great? wouldn't a 16mbps AVC encode be really low in PQ quality?..like mpeg-2 single layer BD-25 disc days. I remember fantastic 4(1) was encoded at 18mbps and the PQ was lousy.

Maybe this is a typo? Can anyone check bitrates on their players?

Well it is probably VBR so it bounces up and down from that. I have not seen any movies with a constant bitrate encoding. Pan's Labyrinth averages around 16. I have not seen Sunshine (yet) but not all movies require as high bitrates as other. It depends on the lighting, colors, etc of the movie.

This is a Fox movie so I figured it would be atleast 28mbps if not higher like the latest die hard movies.

High bit-rates do not automatically translate to great PQ and vice versa.

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/1220/sunshine.html

The review gives the video high marks but does state that there are issues.

...most times when we checked it, it was in the 16-18mbit range iirc. I personally didn't find the quality that remarkable.......it doesn't seem to deserve the high marks some are giving it for video. It's also quite dark in many scenes....so maybe this doesn't require as high a raw bitrate.
