Talking Hansel and Gretel (Renner and Arterton)

March 2nd, 2012

I have no idea how such a crazy sounding project slipped past me but it could be very interesting. 2012 is definitely the year of revisionist fairy tale movies. That would be insane if this too ended up being yet another franchise for Renner. I don't see how he could maintain his current pace though with Mission Impossible, Bourne, Avengers AND this......

Quote:
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is an upcoming American comedy action-horror film directed by Tommy Wirkola. The film will be made in 3-D and is slated for release on March 2, 2012.

Catching up with Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) 15 years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have evolved into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminate witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy as for an unknown reason harmful spells and curses do not work well against them. Now, Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of the evil Muriel (Famke Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches' gathering during the upcoming 'Blood Moon' night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Peter Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own. Ingrid Berdal will portray one of the witches who is a killing machine.

Filming began in March 2011 and is taking place in Potsdam Babelsberg and in the city of Braunschweig, Germany.

Interesting spin on the story and a solid cast. I'll be keeping an eye on this and hope it turns out to be good.

It'll be nice to see Gemma Arterton in another movie since she has nothing coming out at all this year.

Next March is really shaping up to be one damn good month, but at the same time it's packed a little too close for comfort.

We've got Hansel and Gredel on March 2nd, then only one week later on the 9th it's time for John Carter, THEN only two weeks after that on the 23rd it's The Hunger Games. So that is three franchise hopefuls all being launched within a few weeks of each other.

I was hoping the girl's top would slide off... (The one right below Jeremy Renner's face)

I think too much of something is a bad thing and vice versa (forgot where I saw this quote...it was in a movie though)

I think Renner might burn himself out sooner than later with all the gigs he's doing. Let's hope his performance in other movies arent half assed!

Wow! I like the concept, the synopsis, and the cast. The only thing in here that worries me is the text on the poster. It looks really campy and silly to me.

I really like Peter Stormare. He is really good in everything. I hope Arterton is different than the few films I have seen her in. She seems to play her roles the same way. Renner is solid always. I don't know Ingrid Berdal, but she is at least pretty good looking.

have to say im not a fan of Renner...

He's a pretty adequate (yes adequate) actor but there's just something really unlikable about him (for me)

It's probably the way his face looks and/or his portrayals as the "bad guy" in the past

His role in swat made me dislike him a tad bit

It makes it look like an animated children's movie to me. Originally this was planned as a hardcore R rated blood and gore franchise. I don't think they are continuing with that plan still...

Ever since his very first movie National Lampoon's Senior Trip in the mid-90's he amused me. But I never truly took him serious until I saw Dahmer and Neo Ned. He was fantastic in The hurt Locker and simply brilliant in The Town. Have you seen many of his movies?

Been looking forward to this movie and can't wait to see the first trailer or teaser. Not everyday we get a cool Supernatural/period piece movie.

Well that is good news. It really didn't look like it fit with the set images.

I've actually liked more Renner movies then Damon, so for me it's a very welcome change. By the time he plays Bourne audiences will have gotten used to him a lot more then they are now. Right now it's only the Hurt Locker and the Town. There's Ghost Protocol, Avengers and Hansel. He will be a much bigger star by the time he gets around to Bourne. A bigger star then Damon was prior to his casting in the role.

That one is being produced by Michael Bay.

Hmm, was not aware of that. But being as it's Bay that would explain my lack of knowledge on the subject.

Not a big deal, but Jeremy Renner is not going to be Jason Bourne. He will be playing a different character in the new "Bourne" movie.

Well, yeah, but that's beside the point. Jeremy Renner will still be a brand new character.

I didn't think he was playing the same, that'd be rather pointless.
