Default How many of you are replacing your standard DVD collection?

So the question is with a collection of over 1200 Standard DVD's and almost 50 already replaced with Blu-Ray's, where does it end??

How many people are replacing their larger collections and is it worth replacing movies filmed before the digital age or movies that were not filmed in 70MM. Where does it end??

I have 19 total Blu-Rays now. Just picked up Sunshine and it's F*#%ing awesome. I'm mostly picking up new movies. But i already replaced Dracula and Close Encounters. One movie at a time. I would replace them all in a heartbeat if i had the money.

I will buy any of my current DVDs over again on Blu Ray.

If it was worth buying on DVD,.. It's worth buying on Blu Ray.

One small example I can think of is the Avengers TV show from 65,66, and 67. I'm not sure those would be better on Blu but if they were,.. I would certainly re-buy them.

Any DVD's I have that were unwanted gifts or stuff I can't remember why I wanted it are just traded in for credit for Blu.

I never built up a huge DVD collection because i knew the day would come where HD Movies would show up. I only own 4 DVDs right now, Mortal Kombat (LOL, shuddup it rocks), Interview With The Vampire, and Jurassic Park 1 and 2. I also had gladiator but i lost it LOL. So everything i buy is pretty much my first time!

Any movie that I own on DVD that I want to watch again, I will not watch again until I buy it on Blu-ray.

Any DVD that I don't want to watch again, I will dispose of to free up shelf space for new movies on Blu-ray.

I will also be buying many catalogue titles on Blu-ray that I never got round to buying on DVD for various reasons, e.g. I want Titanic but by the time a decent version arrived on DVD, high def was round the corner, so I didn't buy it. Same for Star Wars, where there is still no box set of the whole lot on DVD, and I wouldn't buy such a set if it were released on DVD now, it's Blu-ray or nothing.

I used to buy a lot of VHS tapes when I was a kid, but for some reason I pretty much sat DVD out. The only things I had to re-purchase was Prison Break and Nacho Libre. Oddly enough I never even bought my favorite movies on DVD. I feel pretty lucky because I'm not hampered by owning most of these titles.

After the Warner switch, I decided I might as well replace my whole collection. It will be the last time I ever do this. 1080p is enough for me!

Honestly, they have done comparisons of 35mm prints and some of the BEST Blu-Rays out there, and the difference was so small no one even cared. This IS the last time we will need to do a collection, mainly because the last 2-3% we are missing, we WILL get when 4k TV displays come out, and we get Upconverting Blu-Ray players.

Default Buffy on Blu

Would replace my Buffy the Vampire Slayer DVDs to Blu or Firefly cos I still go back on them and watch em all over again, not so much the films just get the new ones as they come out.

I have 700+ movies/documentaries on SD...I have already replaced them all with available BLU, waiting on new releases of catalog titles to continue. I also have at least as many SD disks of TV on DVD. I do not intend to replace those with BLU.

Keeping my DVDs but all new purchases (except for MST3K) are in blu-ray. Have to buy MST3K now because you never know when they'll lose their licensing agreement on a particular movie. I'll only replace my "top 10" movies in blu-ray, such as Goodfellas and The Godfather (when it comes out) and LotR and Star Wars (original trilogy), etc.
