Default Blacks, too black now

Hello all,

I've been using my newly acquired PS3 as my Blu-ray player for the last few weeks. Something that I have noticed since viewing Blu-ray's on my Sony KF-42WE620 is the lack of black definition. I am watching in 1080i over a HDMI - DVI connection. I've tried making adjustments / calibrations with a set-up disc but to no avail. I do realize that this is a possible shortcoming of my 4 year old LCD TV, but was wondering if this is deemed normal? It also didn't seem to be as noticable through my other DVD player at normal resolutions through component cables. hmmmmm

Well you can try turning the brightness setting one notch at a time and see if shadow detail improves.

Also check if you have RGB set to Full instead of Limited and switch if you have.

Is there a difference between RGB Limited and Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr? I can see a difference when RGB is set to Full, but it is too dark and I have to adjust the brightness too high. Why does Automatic set it to Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr?

wait, huh?

that's moving a couple steps backwards, no?

setting the RGB to full allows all of the color information. if you turn it off, you'll notice everything is muted and less "briliant".
