Default HDTV blacks out momentarily

I have an unusual problem with my HDTV.
Every once in a while, the picture blacks out for a few seconds and then comes back. This happens mostly with the HD channels and also happens rarely though with standard channels. It also happens once in a while when I watch a blu ray disc on my blu ray player, but it never happens with my standard dvd player. It is perplexing and annoying at times. I thought it was the TV, but then why doesn't it happen when I watch a dvd?
Anyone have any ideas??

Keep an eye and see if it happens to tie into your furnace cycling on or off. If so, you may have a power issue.

Happens in the summer as well, when the furnace is completely off. At first I thought it was a problem with the tv, but then why does this never happen when I watch dvd's on my dvd player.
When I use my blu ray player, it will happen once in a while, but when I watch HD channels it will happen quite a bit.
I am Stumped?

Bad connection from the cable/sat box? Perhaps a bad cable? Bad HDMI port?

do you have a different cable, and a different Input on the back of the t.v. you could switch it to?

How is everything connected, is it all HDMI to the receiver and then HDMI from the receiver to the TV? If so, you may have an HDMI issue from the receiver to the TV. I would check the cable by switching it out and also check the ports on the receiver and TV for a start.......

Sounds like either a bad HDMI cable or bad HDMI port.

I wonder if it could be a problem with the tv not handling resolution changes properly? With broadcast and some blu-rays, you do have resolution changes mid content, but I think that DVD resolution is typically constant.

If you're using HDMI, sounds like an HDCP handshake issue. You might try another cable or rechecking your blu-ray player settings to ensure you're not enabling a setting your tv doesn't support.

+1

I had a bad HDMI cable and it caused the same thing. Replacing it solved the problem.

Definitely not, like others mentioned above, try a new HDMI cable or check settings.
