Default Buying from Amazon.com...

Hi,

Im wondering the following:

Living in Canada, we are getting screwed on Blu Ray prices, now I see Amazon.com has some really good deals.

What I want to know are experiences from other Canadians ordering from Amazon.com.

How many movies can you get before typically paying duty, etc?
How long before they arrive?

Thanks

no duty to be paid, becaue amazon.com sends the order to amazon.ca and it's shipped from Ontario.
Shipping time is usually around 1 week.. even if they say it will take 3 weeks.. it's always alot faster then that.
I got 4 blu-rays from them last week.. no problems at all.

I placed my first order on Jan 2nd during the recent BOGO. I haven't received the movies yet, but they all shipped out within 24 hours of placing the order (4 movies total).

I now only order from Amazon.com. I find the shipping quite fast, especially if you pay the extra $2 for expedited. Expedited is usually within 5 business days while standard is around 10. The strong dollar makes it all the more worth while especially since my local Best Buy's and Futureshop's rarely put out much stock.

I was under the impression that anything other than standard shipping caused the buyer to have to pay duty? is that incorrect? otherwise I may have gone from faster shipping.

good to know, I may give that a go depending on how this purchase goes. Seems good so far though.

I was just checking and their shipping rates are way out there. The shipping to Canada using Standard International shipping is $4.99 + 2.99 per item. Expidited is $6.99 + 2.99 per item. Hypothetically, the shipping charges for 4 BD, shipped expidited, would cost $18.95. Adding up the total cost, this is probably a better deal than buying from Amazon.ca and getting their "Super Saver Shipping", but the shipping cost is pretty steep compared to other US retailers.

If Amazon.com BD's are shipped from the US, and the value is over $20 CAD, the Canadian Border Services Agency is suppose to nail you for $8 (expidited or express) or 5$ (standard) for the processing fee, 5% GST and whatever your PST is (or HST). You can check it out at http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/import/courier...d-imp-eng.html

If they are shipped from Amazon.ca in Ontario, obviously the processing fee doesn't apply, put I would suspect there are some legal requirements that would force them to charge you the sales taxes.

I have bought BDs from DeepDiscount and their $5.99 shipping is better than Amazon.com. Everything I have ordered from DeepDiscount has been broken up into multiple shipments. I have received packages whose value has been declared to be under $23 and they get through with no processing fee or sales taxes. I have had packages over $40 and every time they get hit with the processing fee and sales taxes.

I have never used Amazon.com to ship into Ontario, but if they ship from within Ontario, with no CBSA processing fee, GST or PST, even with their high shipping rates factored into the total price, this might be the best deal. Can anybody else in Ontario confirm how Amazon.com's shipping works.
