If I buy an A/V receiver today that has DTS-ES and DOLBY-EX decoding, wil I have to buy another one with a Blu-Ray DVD player? Will the audio output be "lossless"?

but...
Aren't lossless audio tracks not supported by normal recievers? Is it because they are probably coded at 192 kHz and CD is only 44 kHz? Also, high-defenition audio (including DVD-Audio and SACD) are rarely supported on current recievers, simply because the costs are to high :? I wonder if someone could actually enjoy HD Audio as it is supposed to be... |

It has been established that blu ray players will downconvert a/v to whatever system users have but to enjoy the content to it's potential you need an optimal system which means 1080p screen and surround sound speaker setup.

With regards to the new Dolby Digital+ and DTS+ lossy (lossless) HD-Audio formats, will I have to buy a new A/V receiver (or preamp/processor) to support any of these new audio formats? Is there any current A/V receiver that is capable of supporting any of these new audio formats? What spec(s) do I need to look for in order to enjoy the content to its full potential?
Example: If I own a Sherwood R-865 A/V receiver that has 192 kHz 24-bit DAC's for all channels will this be able to support DD/DTS+? |

The Bad News...
After some research I have my answer. I (and you) will have to buy a new A/V receiver (or preamp processor) to enjoy Dolby Digital Plus and DTS Plus to it's full potential. The example I am using is the Sherwood Newcastle P-965 preamp/processor, although this applies to every current A/V receiver that I know of. Current technology is limited to 24bit DAC and 24bit processing. The new HD DVD audio formats will (should) be encoded in 32bit and 64bit formats that will require new A/V equipment to process it. This does not mean that 32/64bit audio will be utilized, just available. The Good News... I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO. This leaves us with some unanswered questions... Will music be recorded in Dolby/DTS Plus stereo? Will any Blu-ray play SACD or DVD-A? |
