I don't get it. LucasFilm and New Line already double, triple, quadruple dip on all those franchises. There's NO WAY those franchises will outsell TDK

And for all the reasons mentioned over the last few months, no catalog title will be the "defining" BD release (if there ever is one), not even LotR or Star Wars.

maybe just 2-3 hits in a row that look fantastic on BD and have features that evidently some what and it grabs peoples attention.
1 movie wont do it but a string of 3 would really get some traction. |

+1 for what stockstar1138 is saying, you're doing it better than I.
Dark Knight (on display on a Blu-Ray) might make j6p stop and say "Whoa" (yes, I'm alluding to Matrix). But Dark Knight isn't going to make him drop the money on a Blu-Ray system. You need to remember that "flat-screens" haven't even made it into the general population. They're confused by the Red, Green, and Blue connectors on the back of their TV. Their DVD player has Red, White, and Yellow cords. (They're also the ones that have the red audio cord in the video spot, and then complain about their sound). This will be the year for people to get more Hi-Def educated (so they know about HDTV, the equipment needed, etc.) I think by the end of 2008, we'll have a good platform of people with HDTV and better know-how. You'll need that as a prerequisite before any movie will bring Blu-ray to the mainstream. HDTV needs to be mainstream first. Hell, the difference between composite and component needs to be mainstream first, and then even HDMI. Hell, people are returning HDTVs complaining that "It looks like someone smeared cat poop on it", not knowing that an HDTV needs an HDTV input. they just expect to bring it home and it looks superb like in Best Buy. Right now, no movie is going to make J6P invest the time and money to figure out Blu-ray, when he fails to grasp HDTV. Eventually, some movie will do it, but I think that will only be after HDTV is mainstream. Why did I just now think of that DirecTV commercial with Jessica Simpson and 1080i "I don't know what that is, but I want it". ? Average consumer education needs to increase. I think that with HD-DVD dying, that it's time to pour on the user education, to where they evolve to "I know what Blu-Ray and 1080p is, how to use it, and I want it". Bottom line, we need two things, not one: -Increased HDTV education for J6P -Great movies on Blu-Ray The second item should be taken care of now, but not even Dark Night will be able to overcome the obstacle posed by the first item. ![]() ![]() HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!!! ![]() Actually, it's probably the sequel that will be out on Blu in 2009/2010 that has a much better chance at passing the million mark ![]() |

What if both the LotR EEs and TDK release around November? Now THAT will make Blu-Ray mainstream.
![]() Well, not really mainstream, but it will really give the format a boost, imo. Last edited by makingmusic476; 01-12-2008 at 12:54 AM. |

Hard to compare The Matrix (the first one) to this, as the delivery of the story is radical - at least to the mass audience and not comic/cyberpunk readers. You also have to remember that The Matrix was big at the box office but got really big on DVD. In fact, some people got it on VHS and they thought it was groundbreaking.
![]() Based on release dates so far, I think the title that'll bring BD to the mainstream is Enchanted. Great story, well acted and it is a crowd favorite for everyone and their fathers (mothers are a given). fuad |
