Batman will be a huge release without a doubt but as to being a game changer, I wouldn't go that far.
I still prefer The Matrix trilogy any day.

Gives a whole new meaning to putting your foot in one's mouth.

The movie that is going to bring BD into the mainstream is going to be a smash hit. The matrix was a smash hit. Given that this film's prequel was successful but not a smash hit, I find it unlikely to garner such success.

While The Dark Knight is going to be a huge release I don't think this will be the title to bring Blu-Ray into the mainstream. I think the Star Wars Saga and the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy will be the releases that do that.

LOTR and Star Wars are catalogues, as popular as those frnachises are, I just don't see them exceeding The Dark Knight BD

I think that was because Matrix was groundbreaking, in terms of concept, visual effects, the bullet-time, etc.

Dark Knight will rock, don't get me wrong, but it won't become the phenomenon that Matrix was. Batman movies have been done before, it won't rock the social conscience. Matrix is a very hard precedent to do again.

Iron Man may set some new levels in terms of CG, but I feel that even then, it won't shatter anything like Matrix did. It will be like Transformers, which set some new CG standards, but even that did not help it with HD-DVD.

I don't think any movie will do it, I think it will need to be a shift in consumer consciousness. You need to convince them that they are seeing something that has never been seen before, in a way they have never seen it before.

Dark Knight: Probably no effects that haven't been done before. Story will rock, though. But it's a touch sell to convince average consumers that they have to watch Dark Knight on Blu-Ray. 1080p televisions may not have made that impact yet.

I just don't see anything coming out anytime soon that will shift things the way Matrix did.

If Peter Jackson does his thing, then the Hobbit will be the big hit that brings Blu-ray to the mainstream.

Groundbreaking, Yes...

BD to the mainstream audience, I doubt...

I hate to be the downer but I honestly doubt that it will have a profound effect on our format
