Is there is any fans of Elmore Leonard out there? I want to read Rum Punch, but also all stories connected to that story. I'm trying to log in the official Elmore Leonard Forums, but I'm waiting for a registration confirmations since 3 days.

I know that Jackie Brown (1997) is an adaptation of his novel, Rum Punch (1992), and I discovered a lot of recurring characters in his other works, but I want to know if I'm missing something:

The Switch (1978) is the first novel with Ordell Robbie and Louis Gara. It will be adapted in a upcoming movie in 2012 (I think)... It was before Rum Punch (obvious). I think Melanie also appear in the story, but I'm not sure...

In Jackie Brown, Michael Keaton plays Ray Nicolette. He reprise his role in Out of Sight (1998), a movie based on the novel Out of Sight (1996).

Just before the novel Out of Sight (1996), Elmore also wrote a short story, "Karen makes Out" (1996), Karen Sisko being a major character in Out of Sight.

They also made a TV Series called "Karen Sisko" (1998), a kind of sequel to Out of Sight, the movie (1998).

Finally, Elmore wrote the novel Road Dogs (2009) in which Karen Sisko is referenced.

Feel free to correct me or add anything!

I can't get into this movie, for me it still holds as QT's weakest (Although considering the quality of his others, this is not such an insult).
I thought Pam Grier and Robert Forster were great, but...eh..i don't know if its the lack of action, or gripping suspense scenes that Pulp and Basterds have in abundance.

I could never see this topping Reservior Dogs or Inglorious Basterds.

i feel the exact opposite actually. though there seem to be a lot of big fans of the movie here, which is awesome.

i cant believe people actually put Basterds in the same category as this film honestly. IB is a fun film with some great set pieces, several scenes with great acting (Waltz obviously steals the whole film), and good ideas, but it does not hold up as a great film for me. too spotty and i have very little desire to go back and actually sit through it again any time soon (seen it 2 1/2 times or so now).

JB on the other hand is the whole package. great soundtrack, it looks great, everyone is cast perfectly (one of Jacksons best roles for me), dialog, perfomances. its pretty much perfect. the more you see it, the better it gets.

i think JB and Resevoir Dogs are his best. though i like them all a lot.

Rum Punch is a good read. ive read a few of his books, they are a lot of fun.

love the Nicolette character. its great that he resumed that role in Out of Sight.

check out Justified on FX with Tim Oliphant (based on a Leonard short story). good show in the Leonard vein.

I agree Jackie Brown gets better every time you see it, and I think as the years pass, the film still holds up as well made. Of all of Tarrantino's films the film I have watched the least is I.B. because while it was well made, I never crave re-watching it again. The introduction scene of "the Bear" just always annoyed me, it must of been the cockiness of the character and the pacing of that scene.

Kill Bill technically is Tarrantino's most well made film and puts other action films to shame.

I just don't understand how so many find Jackie Brown boring etc, it is a brilliant character study and the film has great qoutable dialogue.

It will, someday, be looked back upon as exactly that.

After doing some self research I guess it is quite safe to say these two great films will be region A locked. Too bad.

I'm sorry if this comes across as a dumb question, but how long will the pre-order price last?
I'm tempted to order it now, but I'm also thinking Wal-Mart or Best Buy will have a deal for both or some cool (or possible crappy) collectible.
$10 is a helluva price!

Tough to say, but since Walmart.com is offering this at 10.00 (before shipping/tax) I think it'll stick around for at least a few days. I don't think it's gonna stay at 10.49 indefinitely, though... I expect it'll jump back to 13.99 or even 14.99. Unless you're aiming to maneuver this into your Gold Box to save $0.52, there is no reason not to preorder it at 10.49, though. You can always cancel a preorder, and if the price drops further at Amazon then you're guaranteed the lowest price. Besides, I think it's highly unlikely that this release will see some collectible-type release since nothing has been announced previously.

I don't understand how people could put Jackie Brown lower on their list than Death Proof. Granted, Death Proof was not meant to be a great film but a reflection of cheesy grindhouse action movies, but still, the dialogue didn't hold up to well, most of it being not very intriguing or all too funny like in his other films. For me, it goes...

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Inglourious Basterds
3. True Romance (I know he didn't direct it but it is just so very Tarantino)
4. Jackie Brown
5. Reservoir Dogs
6. Kill Bill (I count it as one long film)
7. Death Proof

I think all of his films are masterpieces with the exception of Death Proof. As for Jackie Brown, It does have an all-star cast and a fantastic soundtrack. It's actually my favorite plot of any Tarantino film (I know he didn't write the plot.) If you didn't like it the first time around, I implore you to watch it again. I didn't even fully understand it the first time I watched, but after watching it several times, I've come to really appreciate the intricacies (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) of the plot and the fantastic dialogue.

I wouldn't pre-order blu-rays, not over two weeks in advance, of their initial release date because, anything can change between now, to October. That's still two months away!

Yes I know, of course.

But I don't want to pay the double price if there's another way(not 100 percent sure yet if these indeed will be locked). Amazon US has Jackie Brown on my quick picks for $9.97 and Pulp Fiction for $14.24. British versions are as of today priced much higher at £15.93($25.67) each!
