Default does ps3 w/firmware 2.10 allow 720p playback of blu-ray?

curious. my set will accept 1080i or 720p, but it's a native 720p set.

if i set the ps3 to 1080i, obviously the tv will scale the image.

if i set the ps3 to 720p max, will it downscale the movie to < 720?

this used to be the case. wondering if sony ever fixed this.

thanks

the PS3 has always been able to output 720p.

the problem you referred to was with some older HDTVs that only support 480i, 480p, and 1080i. they did not support any progressive HD resolution. all Blu-ray movies support 1080i, so people who had such a TV could atleast use that. but for many games, they only support 480i, 480p, and 720p. many games do not support 1080i. this is a choice of the developer, not a limitation of the PS3. so for people with those older sets, their best and only choice would be to run in 480p. if they chose 720p, the PS3 would see that the TV doesn't support it, so it would jump down to 480p. as long as your TV supports 720p, you'll be fine. check your owners manual. even though your tv may not be able to report the current resolution, you should be able to tell if it is running in 720p just by looking at it.
