Every time I start to consider buying a LCD TV, Pioneer continues to raise the bar. Them and Panasonic are all that is really left for plasma. LCD is taking over the market, but Pioneer's televisions are still better then any LCD tv there is on the market. Yes I am biased.

I'm calling Shinanigans on that picture, the older model looks like the brightness is jacked up. We have the exact same TV at work and the blacks on it are amazing.

Actually, the PROJECT KURO is probably the most groundbreaking TV in history. Josh and I sat in on a private demo in a light-controlled room and the blacks were stunning. No light escapes the panel on black areas. The current KURO was displaying the same content right beside the PROJECT KURO and the difference was spectacular. No comparison. They run a lengthy demo on the regular KURO before the new KURO demo begins and it is very impressive. However, when objects on a black background literally look like they are floating in space in front of your eyes on the new KURO, the difference is not subtle!

When a room full of AV enthusiasts and Journalists literally gasp at the demo, you know you are seeing something special. I acutally got chills watching it...

that doesn't change the fact that the 9mm and "infinite" contrast ratio plasma is my dream tv. i don't think there is another tv on the planet right now that even comes close

Oh I'm not denying that fact at all, they are AMAZING TV's but I have never seen that TV get that bright on blacks, we even have that same demo at BB and it looks better than that. I'm stoked about the new line though, everything I've read about them is very impressive.

I've seen the current kuros on display at a local dealer and and the blacks looked super black, but i haven't seen it in a pitch black room with no light, so i really can't judge

Take it from me... there was no cheating going on with this demo. It only looks that bright on blacks compared to the new KURO... the backs on it looked amazing before the new KURO was switched on. Also, if you saw that same demo at a BB, there was no chance you were seeing it with the kind of light control present at the CES demo.

Keep in mind that is is also impossible to judge the effectivness of this demo from a photo displayed on a computer monitor incapable of producting black levels even in the same ballpark as the current KURO.

While I'm sure it will eventually be released, I'm sure it is just too expensive to produce right now. Pioneer wouldn't talk even the slightest specific. So, I'd say two years at the most and at a price-point that pretty much guarantees it will only be used commercially.

You shouldn't. I have a 5010 and that's how it looks with the brightness at the lowest usable level (center or range) in a dark room. Just a bit of ambient light really diminishes the effect and makes the black look *very* black but those photos are roughly accurate for a Kuro.

You forgot about Hitachi. Their newest generation of 1080p plasmas are very impressive as well. They may not be as big a player as Pioneer or Panasonic, but their TV's shouldn't be overlooked.
