OK, need to clear some stuff up first thing...
Your signature says you have a surround system, so does your HDMI go to your surround system or to the TV? If it goes to the TV, how does the sound get to your surround system? In general... If it happens only on some discs and always at the exact same place, you might have bad discs. If it happens with every disc at random places you have you might have a bad cable or even a problem with your TV or PS3. Typically, drop outs are due to the fact that your TV's DAC and/or decoder received something that it determined as errored or didn't receive a signal. |

the philips surround system is a cheapy i got for x-mas 3 years ago from wal-mart. it's an all-in-one dvd with 5.1 surround. i use it occasionally when my neighbors are gone, but rarely, so the issue is with the audio dropping from the tv.
i've thought that it might be the hdmi cable, but i have it snaked into a tv stand bar so that it's hidden, and it's just a real ***** to change it out, and i've neglected to go shopping for another cable, however, i think the cable might be the culprit. i haven't taken notice to see if the sound drops out at exactly the same spots on the disc. it's never really crossed my mind to analyze that aspect because i thought it was random. now that you mention it, i will sit down and see if that happens. however, if i come to discover that it's not a specific drop out, and it is random, what could the be caused by? thanks for the response. i can't believe 60+ people looked at this, and only 1 replied, while the rest of the threads have people discussing topic that sound of a different language. really encouraging sometimes. but thank YOU sir. |

Well it sounds like you know what could be the problem already. If you think is the cable try that since it would be the cheapest one to replace too. If you have a friend with an HDMI cable ask to borrow it

I've had a similar problem with my PS3 setup... but instead of the audio dropping randomly, it will cut out whenever I do anything during the movie like return to the menu, or fastforward, rewind, skip chapters, etc. When the audio cuts out, I have to stop playback, then start it again and it works. I can watch the whole movie if Ijust hit play and don't touch anything.
It's an annoying workaround, but has anyone else experienced this? My setup for audio goes like this: PS3 -> HDMI -> TV -> Optical cable -> Receiver. The audio out is set to Linear. The TV->optical cable-> to receiver works fine with the HD TV signal. This only occurs when I'm watching with the PS3, blu-ray or regular DVDs. Haven't fully dived into fixing this yet, so if anybody has a known fix for this, it would be appreciated! Thanks! |
