Default Bass Drops...

Hi All,

I was wondering if their was an official term for a "bass drop", you get them alot in dance music, or some of you may recall the scene in The Lord Of The Rings, The Fellowship Of The Ring, at the beginning when galadriel is telling the story of how the ring came into the hands of bilbo baggins and you see the scene where they are fighting against mordor and they defeat sauron by chopping his finger off and then he just kinda implodes and then their is just this MASSIVE kind of sound wave that levels all the troops and really works your subwoofer, i love that sorta stuff! you guys know what i talking about ?

I've heard it described as "spike" (this from gearheads who use scopes to measure noise), "burst", "thump", "boom", man, you name it.

Bassheads live for it. One of the finest examples comes early in "Master And Commander", in a battle scene between two 18th Century warships. Lots of listening rooms found out about this one - but there's mixed feelings about it, because if the sub can't perform, it sounds terrible. If it just, it just blows you away.

The waterfall scene in Apocalypto is another, there's several in "Flyboys", they're all over the place. I don't know if there's a technical term.

Make sure your windows are secured tightly. I actually had to play a test tone to see what things were vibrating and actually had to open my window locks half way so they'd stop vibrating. I had a huge problem with that in Dark Knight and after fixing it, I can really enjoy super deep bass without the windows vibrating like hell.

Try the Pods Emerge scene from War of the Worlds. One of the all time nastiest cinematic bass lines. It'll make you feel like the floor is opening up beneath you.

I'm tempted to get this movie, however it is not on BLU yet I just want to listen to this scene you speak of...but I would rather wait for it to be released on BLU... maybe I will just rent it for that scene alone

BTW, one of my favorite "Bass Drops" is the Iron Hide sweep at the end of Transformers, where he flips over the screaming girl. It sounds AWESOME on the ED!

But I am curious what it sounds like on Brain Sturgeon's Gotham!?!

I'm turning into a real bass-head, I guess that's the term. I absolutely love the air base attack scene in the beginning of Transformers, that's my demo scene when my blu-newb friends come over and wanna check out my setup. It's pretty badass when it emits the shockwave-type blast that shatters the control tower's windows. Another few that I've seen recently that my sub liked were: Cloverfield, the monster scene where they almost get stepped on when the Army opens up at it, the soundtrack in The Island (import) has a lot of good bass lines, and I think there was some good ones in Pearl Harbor when the ships were getting torpedoed, especially when one of them is capsizing and you can hear the hull groaning.

Can't wait to watch U-571 this week. Then I'll have to re-watch it when I get my ED A2-300!
