Default I need your help! Too much bass

I recently bought a PS3 and a Sony - BRAVIA 1000W for my apartment and I think I am having some sound issues. Every time I watch a blu ray the sound is fantastic but there is just too much bass going on. I don't see any settings on the Bravia where I can adjust the bass levels. Is it the settings I have on the receiver that is causing the problem? I have the PS3 set to optical/bitstreem with an optical cable running from the ps3 to the reciever so I know that is right. There has to be something wrong with the Bravia settings I am using that is causing this thing to sound so bassy. I love the blu ray but with the way this is sounding I can't even watch movies at night because its shaking the room!

Please advise, any help is much appreciated!

turn the volume down on the subwoofer, it is a knob that either says "volume" or "gain"

Yeah, you'll be surprised how little you really need. My subwoofer is set to only 20% volume and it rattles my brick house!

1. check your gain, use a 'bass heavy' movie, and adjust accordingly. a cd, or a repeating chapter of a movie, would work just fine...
2. also double check your crossover settings. might be a tad high.
3. try using bass traps.

I didn't even know there was a knob on the sub, that would explain it though! As soon as I get home I will check it out but I know there has to be a way to turn the bass level down.
