Second, and I don't know why people do not understand this, reviews are wholly subjective in terms of the movie itself, and even reviewing the technical specs is not wholly objective. I rate the movie based on how much I liked it, how much replay value it has for me, how well it was made, how well it was acted, how well it was directed, and so on. I pay no attention to what other reviewers or critics have to say about a movie. It will be a rare case where everyone shares the same opinion on a movie. I'm sorry you don't like my reviews. I will not be changing my style or criteria.
I was going to say the same thing about Hairspray having a different reviewer than the other movies mention.

All reviews are a matter of options and everyone has one. There’s no need for you to change your style or criteria, but not everyone is going to agree with you.

I just want to make sure people know that even if I recommend a movie, they might hate it. Reviews are completely subjective and I just want to make sure people realize that. It's nothing more than my opinion and not the end all, be all final word on the movie.

It's the human factor. I think some people take it personally when a reviewer doesn't feel the same as they do.

I thought the movie was excellent. Love it and will watch it again and again.

I don't know why anyone is comparing it to Event Horizon. Not even close. The only thing "similar" is the ship meets up with the other ship and so on. Everything else is it's own.

Not sure why movies have to be similar, the same or borrow. If that is the case, every sci-fi movie ever made borrows stuff from other movies. Hell, it takes place on a space ship

this website gave the movie a much higher rating than I would but I thought for a sci-fi, it was well done.

A little too preachy/talky for me but again, IMO, it was good

Sunshine is the best sci-fi movie of all time in my book. Yes, better than Alien, Blade Runner, Clockwork, 2001, Terminator 2, etc. While I agree it took some elements from the best of past sci-fi movies, it managed to be very unique in its own right and was very well executed from start to finish. I liked it so much, it might even be in my top ten movies of all time even after the novelty wears off, mostly because I'm a big fan of the genre. I find it curious that some find Sunshine to be a disappointment while at the same time consider garbage like POTC3 to be a "great movie". But to each, their own.

I enjoyed it. [And no it's not the greatest SF picture ever, but it was enjoyable and pretty well done.]

Started to watch Event Horizon once, but wasn't in the mood at the time. Been meaning to give it another shot one of these days... have to dig it out again...

I thought this movie was cool. I had to rent it in DVD cuz blockbuster was out of the blu-ray. I dont like waiting even for the better picture. But I sure wish I had cuz this film probably looks outstanding in blu-ray. I didnt really get the monster guy. Can someone explain to me how he was able to resist the sun light and turn all resident evil like?

Default Sunshine

Finally watched Sunshine last night. bought this as 100% blind buy, never even heard of this, only everyone talking about it here. I am in no way a
Sci-Fi guy at all, I thought the movie was great, had the wife watch it with me and thought she would be very bored and maybe even stop watching it....she thought is was great as well. We watched 3:10 to Yuma, War and Sunshine this weekend and thought this was just as good as any. PQ/AQ was excellent as well. I did have 3 spots though toward the end of the movie where the audio went all crazy, but it only lasted about 10 seconds each time and then was fine. Overall I was pleased with the movie and found it very entertaining and pretty suspenseful. I would recommend

I bought this as a blind buy as all the reviews and all my friends said it was one of the best movies of the year. Well, the PQ was the best I have ever seen, hands down. Especially those shots when they fly around Mercury. And the plot and dialogue driven bits in the biggining were expertly crafted as well. But then the antagonist came in and the movie did a complete 180, turned to crap. The effect of blurring the screen was a cheap way to make a costume IMO and it really came out of nowhere. The rest of the movie was believeable to, the ending just really sucked. I wish I hadn't bought it!

Sunshine is one the best sci-fi films to come out in a while. It didn't rely on aliens or space battles, but took a more "realistic" approach. These types of films are hard to come by anymore. I just watched the movie again last night with a few of my friends and they all thought it was great. This was the first Blu movie for a few of 'em, too. They were impressed.

Don't get me started on "realistic". For one thing, you would instantly freeze when vaulting through space with no suit (absolute zero). And if you didnt, your body would explode due to the pressure differences. I'd be more inclined to believe aliens existed at the sun before traveling from one airlock to another with no suit!

The dialogue and tension in the movie was realistic, but from a sci-fi point of view, it was still just as unrealistic as others like Event Horizon.

Hello folks, new member here.

I purchased Sunshine this past weekend, and enjoyed it greatly, but I experienced a strange issue with the disc. I was wondering if anyone here had a similar experience.

I use a PS3, which I updated to the latest firmware yesterday, version 2.1, and a Philips 1080p 42" lcd.

The movie looked great, but, it had a strange flicker to it. It was as if the frame rate was too slow. Slower movement appeared fine, but faster moving images appeared choppy. I double checked the firmware on the player and all the settings within the tv and couldn't resolve the issue. Anyone have nay ideas what this could be?

The only thing I could think of is that the tv operates at 60hz, not 120hz.

hey I think this is the first thread I started that got more than 5 responses. LOL.
I want to first say thanks to the reviewers at blu-ray.com. You guys are great, and I look at your reviews first. Not a big Peter Bracke fan. Anywho, my point I guess is that people's tastes can differ, but they can also be similar.
One reviewer on here didn't "get" Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I thoroughly enjoyed that flick. So when it comes to comedies. We may not be on the same page. The reviewer of sunshine is completely entitled to his opinion, I just thought it was a lackluster effort.[SPOILER ALERT] I was expecting more and what I got was a burned up naked russian killing the remaining crew members. There was nothing about this movie that stuck out for me to say, wow that separates it from the pack. It was average, but has great PQ/AQ. I would take Alien or Aliens over it, hands down.

Ok yeah yeah! Everyone has their own opinions of movies but I'm gonna wait until Blockbuster releases the blu-ray copy at their online and traditional store. I'm pretty sure its a good movie with dazzling special effects but I'm gonna watch it and let myself determine if it was good movie or not
