Yes.

The added detail is quite noticeable. Before I bought my Sony 46X I had the opportunity at a local store to compare it directly with a Sony 46" 1233 x 768 model. The difference was clear to see. The additional detail in the 1920 X 1080 panel was clearly visible, edges were smoother.

I would say it's subjective. Some may see a huge difference and yet others will see a difference but it won't be a huge leap.

I would say there would a significant difference, especially on a 50 inch 720P vs. a 50 inch 1080P set...

It all depends on how close you sit to your display. 1.5x the screen width or greater and you won't notice a difference, if you sit closer than that you will notice a difference. Too many variables to consider and resolution is not the only thing that makes a great picture.

That is a good point to note.

One of the better comments I've heard. I read somewhere before that used an example that if you have a 60" t.v. and you sit further than 10 ft. away you're wasting money on 1080p over 1080i (The eye can only distinguish so much). However I'm a HT junky so I always go with the top resolution.
