I know this is normal...but is it supposed to be this bad for blu-ray. Alright Saw 3 had it bad at "moments" so did Click. But Guardian and Open Season looked flawless. I just want to know is this completely normal or if anybody notices the same grain in Click and Saw 3. let me know. Also is there a way to eliminate it on the TV settings

It's normal. If grain is in the original film, the disc is representing the best image the film has captured. If not, there's something wrong with the disc.
Film is not images captured using HD video cameras. Eliminating grain brings all sorts of other problems. fuad |

ok so I'll just leave my TV the same as it's always been. Thnx you helped alot. I noticed that the newer the releases, the better the grain. Maybe thats because they're getting used to putting them on Blu-Ray. They've gotten used to the technology or GETTING used to it. But thnx

Another way of putting it: grain can be your friend. All those details you are seeing from the source film indicates great care has been made in doing the transfer. You should start to worry when you don't see any grain or other artefacts from the source material.
This is the same issue as analog hiss in remasters of music from the original tapes. You want that hiss to be there. Sure, some codewriter at Dolby can develop an algorithm and remove it, but the noise reduction code doesn't know where the hiss ends and the sound of a cymbal begins. I don't want digital noise reduction deciding what my ears hear or my eyes see. |
