Default Jason Reitman's Young Adult

Quote:
Paramount Pictures has provided ComingSoon.net with a first look at the poster for director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody's Young Adult. We have also received the first photo from the dramedy, starring Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswalt and J.K. Simmons.

In the film, hitting limited theaters on Dec. 9 before expanding wide on Dec. 16, Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Oswalt) who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.

Sounds kinda, meh...

But, since it comes from Diablo & Reitman, I will give it a chance. Haven't disliked a Reitman film yet.

I thought the same thing. Plus, it is Chalrize Theron and she is a really good actress IMO.

I've been looking forward to this for about a year now. Written by Diablo Cody and starring Patrick Wilson, can't go wrong there.

I liked Thank You for Smoking, enjoyed Juno, loved Up in the Air....

This is just "eh" to me for some reason. I feel like a backlash is going to hit Reitman sooner or later.

I guess it's just because it is a Reitman film. For some reason people just love his movies, and I just don't. I've seen his other "big-3" films and wasn't impressed with any of them, not in the slightest. This one, too, looks unimpressive.

I went from thinking the trailer was okay to being obsessed with it. I watch it on a daily basis and already quote it.

It's the film I'm most excited to see.

And the new TV spot is HILARIOUSSSS. "I love your sweaterrr."

It honestly felt like a Diablo Cody movie more than Jason Reitman. Pretty good, especially Charlize Theron. Actual video review up tomorrow.

Just got back from a preview of this. After some snafus with the sound and lights, the audience and I settled into a pretty good picture. It was a great mix of hilarity and awkwardness, and Charlize really captured what a mess her character was. The movie's actually kinda sad, though it isn't terribly heavy-handed about it
[Show spoiler]until the denouement, which in a fault of the film comes kinda quickly - the last 15-20 minutes should've been able to breath a little more. I kinda get where Reitman and Cody where going with the character at the end, but I would've liked to have seen more than just the one conversation with a high school-sychophant after Mavis' comeuppance
.

8.5/10. That'll be a 4 if this gets around to getting a poll.

I would think it would seem like a Diablo Cody movie since she wrote it.

I did talk about some minor things, but not too spoilerish.

I have an 8-screen movie theatre and a 15-screen movie theatre and they both get different movies (occasionally they both show the same movie, but only if it's a big movie like Twilight) but neither of them has YOUNG ADULT on their schedule this weekend.

I'm hoping they're still deciding the showtimes. The 8-screen theatre posted their showtimes for Friday but I noticed their showtimes only take up 6 screens. So maybe they'll get it?

The 16-screen theatre doesn't post their showtimes until Thursday night, but Young Adult isn't in their "coming soon" section so I don't know. They did show the trailer before Breaking Dawn so I hope they get it. They did add a few movies before that weren't in their coming soon section.

I WILL GO INSANE IF MY AREA DOESN'T GET THIS MOVIE THIS WEEKEND. I know it's only opening in 1,000 theatres, but come on, not ONE of those theatres can be one of my two theatres? We're probably the biggest in the state (small state.)

I hate it when the funniest parts of a movie are in the trailer, like this one, and the rest of the movie was flat. However, I commend the performances of Theron and Oswalt that made the film tolerable. 3/5
