You should NOT Have any problems playing PS3 games from other regions. The PS3 is only region-locked for Blu-ray movies. Enjoy importing your games!

DVD's, PS1 and PS2 games are region locked.

Some Blu-ray movies are region locked, some are not. Use this site as a guide.

All PS3 games are region free just like PSP games.

Nope, you really can't disable the region lock for Blu-ray movies simply because there's just no way to do so. And it's safe to assume that Sony would never remove region-locking on the PS3. They definitely would not want to lose movie studios on their side by removing it (i.e. New Line Cinema, even if they have confirmed Blu-ray exclusivity). Sorry to burst your bubble, dude, but look at the brighter side - we now only have to deal with three regions, as opposed to the DVD's 6 (or more?!). And just like what Shin-Ra said, some Blu-ray movies are not region locked.

i was trying to figure the same thing out. I think it might have something to do with the rating system, the american rating system have become prudes and other countries let alot more slip through with their movies. they will let the worst kind of killings through but censore out certain kinds of nudity.

Movies are released in theatres on different dates depening on the territory. A movie that's currently playing in theatres in the US could possibly be scheduled to be shown in UK theatres several months after. By the time it starts playing in UK theatres, the BD/DVD could already be out in the US. The studio would not want to impact the box office earnings because the Blu-ray/DVD discs are already available for purchase. That would directly hit the box office earnings because people would just buy the BD/DVD and just watch them at home.

i dont know, they released that movie Bubble the same date as it was released in the theaters, so i think the studios are trying to get over the release date hump, besides, before you would have to wait almost half a year to see a dvd or vhs release of a movie now you just wait weeks. i think it has more to do with the ratings system. it just makes more sense

i still think it has more to do with the ratings. studios think about how to get more money, if they have a movie in theaters to long, they take the risk of paying more to have the movie out and only a small amount of people come to see it. they know if they release the film early, they will make more money. the problem is that if they were to release the japanese version of kill bill vol. 1 from japan as a regular version, prudes who buy it will complain and possibly sue because they will be able to watch this version on their ps3 because they see too much blood, for example

hell i know if i see a great movie like The Mist in theaters then feel the whole family might want to check it i will pay the blu-ray price right after i have seen it in order to just bring it home. people are willing, it's just they want to regulate it all more. we dont share the same beliefs as other contries and vice versa, japan has nudity in cartoons for ch*st sake, you think americans would allow that?

Also, studios often contract for different distribution rights for films and DVD sales in different territories, and the revenue split will vary accordingly. Region locking was thought to be a way to protect those distribution rights and profits.

So, is there no way to disable DVD region locking on the PS3? My mom's in Tokyo right now, and I was going to have her bring me back some anime DVDs, along with GT5 Prologue.
