Anyone from Canada ordered from Amazon.com? If I bought movies from their would I have to pay duties and customs on them? I was told that I can't really get any of the deals on recievers and such from there without paying duties and taxes and such. But what about movies? There are alot of great deals on Amazon.com that you can't get close to up here... yet.

My largest single order from them, for the record, was 10 BDs. Gotta love the BOGO sales. |

I've placed about 30 orders with them and not once have I seen any duty or tax charges come my way. I think that they are able to save us the hassle by relaying the order to a Canadian distribution centre as "corporate inventory dispersment" or something like that. If a company moves product within its own establishment, they are waived the fees. As long as you don't mind waiting the extra 3 to 5 days for shipping, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AMAZON.COM over AMAZON.CA! As for receivers? The Amazon.com system won't even let you order any hardware (of any kind) or video games. As far as I know, the only things able to cross the border to Canadian consumers via Amazon.com are all formats of home media (DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD) and literature. |

I placed my first order with Amazon.com during the BOGO at the beginning of the month. I received my movies (first 4 harry potters) a week and a half later. No duty, no problem. Great price and I will be ordering a lot more from Amazon.com in the future.

Ive ordered pretty much all of my movies from Amazon.com. The only thing you have to watch out for is if you change the shipping to expediated, you might be charged duties. BUT standard and expediated take the same amount of time, as I ve tested the shipping out, and so just make sure everything you order is on standard shipping.
When they have BOGO's though, they will usually give you a free upgrade to expediated and this has never given me duties, only when I actually choose expediated myself. |

^^
Three things: 1. I've used standard before, and it is slower than expediated by a few days 2. I've never been given a "free upgrade to expediated"...it always costs $2 more 3. I use expediated almost exclusively now, and have never been charged duty |

Awesome information. I've been looking at the Amazon.com BD says and wondered about duty!
Thanks. |

Same for me! No duties at all...
I have only used the USPS (standard US postal service) method so far. It takes at least a week but no problems at all! And you can order movies that seem to take forever to get out in Canada (like Mr Brooks!, don't know if it's even out in Canada yet). |

When the shipment value was listed as $24 or under I haven't been hit with any border handling fee or sales taxes. However every shipment that was over the $40 mark got hit. It didn't matter how many BDs were in the shipment, all that seemed to mater was the listed value. The Canadian Border Services Agency (www.cbsa.gc.ca) says shipments under $20 CAD should go through without incurring any additional charges. Over that there is a handling charge of $5 for standard and $8 for expidited or express. They also tack on the sales taxes applicable to the recipients province. I guess Amazon.com has found a back door across the border. |

What irratates me about ordering from Amazon to Canada...
I bought Sunshine, one movie... they send it in a massive box and I have to jump thru hoops to go pick it up somewhere because it was too big for my mail box.... usually they only use small packaging, but the odd time they give you a box big enough to put a 20 inch tv in :P |
