I would go for a 1080P tv, I have all Samsung's in my house and a Pioneer Plasma. So I do like Samsung, BUT I have been told by a few people and a few Best Buy/Magnolia guys that the new Panasonic Plasma's are second only to Pioneer. I have been told on a few occasions that "if you can't afford a Pioneer plasma or it is not in your budget then to get a Panasonic Plasma. So if you are buying plasma I would always go Pioneer first (no question) but would probably give the Panasonic the nod over the Samsung. All my Samsung's are LCD's or DLP so I am not sure about the Sammy Plasma
this is just my opinion |

Go with the panasonic plasma. The samsungs still have a little problem with burn-ins and i know this because i work in audio/video dept in a electronic store(cannot tell which one).

At 42" you'd be wasting your money on a 1080p. Get a 720p and with the money you saved, invest in a better Home Theatre set-up.
As far as which plasma to buy, all I can say is I love my Panasonic 42". Pioneer is considered the best (by many), but I can't justify the difference in price. Samsung is a really well-respected brand for both plasam and LCD, and I don't think you'd go wrong in choosing either one. Look for a good deal, but remember...at 42"....don't waste your money on a 1080p. |

1st thing 1st, get a 1080p if you are going to watch blueray and excpect to get the most from it. they are not that much more especially if budget has some flexibility. 2nd, I bought a 46 lcd samsung tv at 120htz for 1800. It was a one day promo at frys electronics( so they said). I was strictly plasma untill this TV came along for that price. The panny tvs I saw were great but the sammys looked noticley better. Thats just my opinion. BTW, the new sammy is sweet.
BTW, i have been reading the forums for awhile and this is the question that made me join. I try to buy as many movies as possible and i am informing everybody where I work (iwork at a hotel & over 150 co-workers in my department) that has heard but dont quite get what it all is. GO bluray |

Unless your viewing distance is more then 8 feet, you WILL see a big difference between 42" 720P and 1080P. Period. |
