Well, it's a bit more complicated that that I'm afraid. Keep in mind this film was released in 1981, not 1941. There's quite a bit of debate on 1.37 vs. 1.75 as the intended aspect ratio for the film. The most recent DVD was 1.33, but they may favor 1.75 (or 1.78) for the BD.

Well it's more likely to be 1.37:1, because that's ratio almost all the animated films the original animators used for their films, and this is one of them, apart from the last third of the film where the current animators took over.

It might have been released in 1981, but The Rescuers came out only 4 years prior to it and that was 4:3.

Hopefully Disney will do a little restoration work on this one:

"The Rescuers" was shot on 35mm with a 1.66 negative and displayed theatrically at 1.75.

Again, I'm not here to give definitive answers. The issue of several '70s and '80s films has been argued for decades. We're not going to resolve it on this message board today. I'm simply pointing out that there are no simple answers to this question.

Every animated movie made in the decade prior to it, and after were done in widescreen, so I'm sure we're getting it in its original intended aspect ratio.

I'm really hoping for a Robin Hood blu-ray release sooner rather than later as it's an absolute favorite of mine (first movie I saw at the theater). I'm sure its still a few years off but as other have mentioned I believe Disney will release all on blu-ray at some point, even if they have to do combo discs for the lesser known features.

The original Fox and the Hound is one of Disneys best. An excellent tale of how a prejudice of the world can drive childhood friends into enemies. The Fox and the Hound 2 on the other hand is a cheap peice of crap for the direct to video kid market. Please release the original movie in its original 1.66 aspect ratio

Fox and the Hound was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Such a sad story.

On DVD it was released just after Lady and the Tramp, so Fall 2012 is a possibility. Of course they've shuffled around the releases a bit so who knows (Bambi wasn't released until after Aladdin, which has now disappeared along with Cinderella from their previous positions in the release order.)

Aladdin is not part of the Diamond Edition anymore. That's the reason, why they have to release all Spring Diamond Editions one year earlier, to make sure none of their top-notch releases (which were released allways in Fall) had to pitch in.

most likeley release order:
Lady and the Tamp (Spring 2012)
Cinderella (Fall 2012)
Peter Pan (Spring 2013)
The Little Mermaid (Fall 2013)
101 Dalmatians (Spring 2014)
The Jungle Book (Fall 2014)
Pinocchio Diamond Edition (Spring 2015)
Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition (Fall 2015)

I really wish Disney wouldn't do the whole double feature thing. I would like The Fox and the Hound, but not the sequel. Having it on there is fine, as a bonus feature, but I don't like it taking up half the cover art, which should go to the original movie only. As far as other Disney blu releases go, I'm willing to bet that The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will come out right before the new one hits theaters, which I think is this Fall/Winter. And how could they remove Aladdin from the Diamond line? It's one of my favorites and one of their best

I second the motion that Aladdin be reinstated into the Diamond line. I really don't care what the packaging says, but I don't want it's non-diamond status to give them an excuse to skimp on quality or extras.

As for the double feature thing, I'm kind of surprised it has taken them this long to start forcing those DTV sequels onto us. I do wish Disney would let us buy the classics without the sequels, but this allows them to raise the suggested retail price so I doubt they will stop this. I was okay with the price I paid for Fantasia/F2000 set, so for people who actually want the sequels this could end up being a decent deal. I am not a big fan of double movie cover art in most cases. Disney could at least send us replacement slipcovers and cover art that only feature the main film and merely list the second as a special feature.

I haven't seen one, but here's a good list of what Disney has released so far to Blu, animated and live-action:

I'd like to see a list of what they plan to release from their older live-action library. So far they just released TRON, and Rocketeer is coming later this year. Would love to see movies like 20,000 Leagues and Mary Poppins in Blu.
