Question Help! PS3 Componet Cables

I have a friend (and yes, he is blu boy ) who has a 1080i tv and a ps3. He has not yet purchased a HDMI cable. His movies and games only play at 720p. Is that the highest resolution the component cables allow? I thought so, but i am not sure?

games can be 1080p via component if the tv even accepts 1080p over component (not likely but possible)

Movies must be HDMI to get 1080p...component for movies is 1080i max

Component can pass 1080p but I think most tv's only accept up to 1080i via component.

the ones that come with the PS3 are 'composite' cables, not component. You will only get 480i with composite.

Absofrigginlutely!

It amazes me that BB sells 6ft cables at almost 60 bucks - absolutely nuts.

Cable prices at brick & mortar CE stores are one of the biggest cons ever.

Monoprice is cable heaven. Just in case your friend's tv only has a DVI input...

3 ft. HDMI-DVI
6 ft. HDMI-DVI
10 ft. HDMI-DVI

Been rockin' the 6 ft. since December 2006 and it has never let me down.

That and the PS3 will not allow 1080p to pass through component if the material being viewed is copyrighted.

Thanks again for the help. My friend will be buying an HDMI cable shortly. As for me, i have a 12 foot HDMI cable, so i'm all good. But for future reference how reliable is monoprice? I've never heard of that site before.

I have bought cables of many types from monoprice time and time again. They are very reliable and come highly recommended by anyone that has bought from them. I am pretty sure most of the forum members have bought cables from them as well.

I have also had really good experiences with cmple.com for inexpensive good cables.

thanks, but I have read the manual on many occasions.

"Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard."

or did you not read my first post correctly?

I only ordered from them once, a few weeks ago.

I ordered 4 HDMI cables + shipping was under $30. They arrived 3-4 days after I ordered.

Extremely. I've never heard a negative review regarding them, nor do I have one to share personally from the 5 orders I've placed with them. All orders are shipped quickly and professionally, and their products are top-notch.
