Wasn't able to watch it in SBS, but even in anaglyph, it looks like some of the best 3D depth to come out of the 50's.

In fact I have just watched Alice In Wonderland 3D, and despite the positive reviews regarding the 3D conversion, I can say that I was far from overwhelmed! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, but for the first time I can say that the poor 3D spoiled it for me. 3D conversion will not do the industry any favours, especially if Alice ... is as good as it gets!

Mine is up on ebay now.

Its sort of a mix. Live capture and some real locations. Some of the characters, at least in the trailer, look to be real. The major characters are animated, but attempted to look real.

Chronicles of Narnia came out last week. The 2D was decent, so I assume the 3D can only be better.

The Last Airbender was not very good.

Cameron got it right with Avatar, that looked gorgeous in the cinema and still does on 3D blu .. cos it is in the best aspect ratio for home viewing. I hope many directors have picked up on this cos the 3D home market could be a better place for it. RE Afterlife could have been fantastic if it was full screen, but I consider it only GOOD because of the reduced effect caused by the aspect ratio. It has also put me off other titles that I am sure could be gems.
It depends on what type of setup you have. I feel just the opposite of you, but I am using a CIH 2.35 screen. I much prefer 2.35/40 for both 2d and 3d on my setup since you get quite a bit more picture. I am much more likely to buy 3d films if they are 2.35/40 as well. Looking forward to all the scope 3d films coming out in the next few months such as MvA, Megamind, Transf 3, etc.........

I'm not a big fan of gory movies but Final Destination 3D is a good live 3D movie with good depth and plenty of pop-outs, especially the snake.

Ah, well you have hit the nail on the head there my friend. If I did have a 2.35 TV/Screen, I am sure I would be happy with the formatting. Out of interest, how do 1.85:1 films display on your 2.35 screen?

I am using the zoom method on my projector so I just zoom down for 1.78/85 films which gives me black bars on the sides of the 2.35 screen (just like a commercial theater works, but they have curtains or some sort of masking to hide the bars). The great thing though is since these are not projected black bars like you get on a 1.78 screen when watching 2.35/40, they are quite a bit darker and I find in my setup there is no need for masking. You simply dont notice them unless you actually look at which point you can barely make them out. Going to a 2.35 setup is one of the best HT upgrades I have done since 2.35/40 films are the most impressive looking (largest) which is how it is meant to be!

Just watched HOLE 3D last night. I enjoyed it very much. It has Joe Dante's fingerprints all over it - LOL:

- and I liked DARK COUNTRY 3D much more than I expected to. Both of these really should get Region A releases:

Like "The Mad Magician", it's already available for Purchase-only VOD on PS3 Store, but since they won't show any previews of it, I've never heard of it either.

I really don't understand why they are rebooting Spider Man. The trilogy we have I thought is perfect already. Would be great to see those in 3D.

Um, okay, that was random--

To answer the question (as has already been answered for pages and pages on other threads),
A) Sony wanted to intimidate Sam Raimi and prove that they could make the franchise without him (and then had to "reboot" it when the straight sequel was too tied up with unreturning cast members and didn't go over with the fans), and
B) More to the point, every sequel franchise now wonders "Why didn't WE get our 3-D sequel?", and gives it one more try just to sell the gimmick. (Qv. Final Destination.)

Does that answer your...well, I hesitate to call it a "question", more like a brain-synapse backfire?

Resident Evil: Afterlife looked really good in 3D...some great pop out effects and depth...movie wasn't so great but the 3D alone is worth it

United Kingdom Cracking news, guys!

He also mentioned Kiss Me Kate, which they own as well, although he said nothing about a time frame for that one. In my opinion when they start putting actually good movies like these on bluray 3D the format will begin to grow. And in an earlier interview I heard him say they are working on a bluray release of Cabaret in 2012. The problem with this one has been that it was poorly cared for by the former owners and there is a heavy scratch down the center of the 6th reel which must be painted out, an expensive and time consuming process. I, for one, will be glad to get my hands on any or all of these.
That news is severely awesome! In a single reply you've mentioned three of my all-time favourite 50s 3D movies--'House of Wax'(with the incomparable Vincent in full-on mad mode), 'Dial M For Murder'(with Grace Kelly's hand nearly poking the viewers eye out) and 'Kiss Me Kate'(too many stand-out 3D moments for me to pick one).

What a relief for us to have an announcement of that magnitude. Now, there's one movie from the 80s that I would like to see make it to 3D blu ray and that's 'Starchaser: The Legend of Orin'(a cartoon that was basically a 'Star Wars' rip-off but a beaut nonetheless). At one point MGM owned the rights(at least in 2D) to it although I don't know about now(some time back Warners released a number of MGM movies onto DVD so maybe they now have the rights to it).

So, hopefully, my wish for more older 3D movies might actually be coming true. Let's hope!

John.
