So now that we have the 2011 version of Moby Dick released on Blu-ray
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Moby-Dick-Blu-ray/27567/ when the heck are they going to release the previous versions, and I am not referring to that psycho picture with Barry Bostwick and a submarine that I skimmed through on you tube. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1694508/ I want the 1956 version with Gregory Peck going off the deep end. One of my three favorite movies of all time and one of my favorite performances as well. Although my ideal would be to have a Star Trek TOS move and provide the original model whale version and another version you could select with an enhanced CGI whale. I'm sure a CGI whale would irritate a lot of people ![]() ![]() I also want the 1930 version with John Barrymore. I used to have this on VHS but loaned it out and forgot who had it. Probably one of the best unintentionally funny movies I have ever seen. I haven't ever seen the Sea Beast which was the silent version from 1925, although I have oddly seen the DVD available for sale. I doubt I would ever pick up the 1978 version which I watched twice on VHS and have kept on the shelf since then. I was also wondering if anyone watched the 2011 version yet and how they thought it compared to any of the earlier versions. ![]() |

I found this thread and wanted to update some information - it has been released in Australia under the " Hollywood Gold Series" which have had a good record bringing out titles that tend to look pretty decent. I was going to order this, although there are currently no reviews or other information on this particular release - which came out on July 2. Not sure if it is Region locked but I can play them regardless. Anyone interested might want to check it out.

Picked this up today:
The disc is region free - confirmed on my Oppo Aspect ratio is 1.66, LPCM 2-channel mono track, No extras, static menu screen with chapter selection. The print used has some minor damage but nothing too distracting. Based on my spot checking tonight, the PQ is on the soft side and the colors somewhat muted (though that may be how the film is supposed to look, I haven't seen it for many decades). Overall, not the greatest transfer of a vintage title but adequate for the semi-budget price. |

fishpond.com is a good source for BDs from down under. Free worldwide shipping, reasonable prices, and they've been a reliable retailer for me for several years -- never had a lost or damaged item from them.

I have several of these Hollywood Gold Series BD's (Lifeboat, The Devils Brigade, Journey to the Center of Earth, Judgment at Nuremberg, etc) and they are all of pretty good quality and are ALL region-free.
I've ordered a lot through JBHiFi, an Australian company that ships to US. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-...y-dick/572063/ |

Ron Howard's "In the Heart of the Sea." will open this December. It's based on the true story that inspired Melville to write "Moby Dick." I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see the 1956 classic film released at that time. It would be a major lost opportunity to sell a sh*tload of discs on the heels of the marketing campaign for what looks to be, based on the previews, a tremendous film from Ron Howard.

Seconding. If anyone should get this it's Criterion or Arrow UK or the actual company. Twilight Time doesn't deserve any money from me and they belong in my Other collection.
I also really love this movie and hoping WB through WAC maybe would also release Captain Horatio Hornblower. |
