I will boycott them until they are blu, end of discussion.
Couldn't have said it better myself. We've got to hit these fsckers where it hurts: their bottom line.

If they really cared about their sales, they'd do what Warner did. The fact that they didn't speaks volumes (especially for Universal).

Boycotting the studios is just pointless and stupid.

As others have stated, there aren't even enough people joining this 'boycott' to even make a blip on the radar. Cloverfield just made over $40 million dollars this past weekend. I'm sure Paramount is really crying over the loss of 8 bucks a piece from a small handful of people on some web forum.

As for me, I went and saw said movie, and I rather enjoyed it. It was one of the best times I've had at a movie in a while. I'm glad I didn't let my head get all filled with stupid corporate politics to prevent me from just going out and enjoying the movie.

The boycotters aren't going to do anything to make these studios release their movies on Blu-Ray and sooner than they will anyawy, and all you are doing is letting yourselves get so preoccupied with the politics and B.S. of the format war that you are preventing yourselves from going out and just enjoying movies that you would otherwise enjoy if it wasn't for this crap. You're cheating yourselves more than anyone else.

But if it gives you some false sense of purpose and accomplishment to pointlessly boycott these studios, then feel free to continue doing so. Nothing beats the power of self delusion.

I'm not going to cheat myself of seeing Iron-Man in May... I will only buy blu-ray movies... The tide has turned Universal and Paramount will at least go neutral if not full blown blu...

Paramount was the #1 dollar grossing studio of 2007, your efforts are commendable but they arent working.people just arent buying the titles on HDDVD only dvd and thats helping prove to them that blu is the way to go

Default My 8 bucks...

...was used to see I am Legend this weekend. It opened at $77 million. Whether or not a studio recognizes my small contribution is not the point. I'm not going to support movies in the theaters from Universal or Paramount/Dreamworks, only to have them slap me in the face when it comes time to view them at home. Releasing on Blu-ray at this point is not an unreasonable request.

To each his own.

If it makes you feel better, okay. But just realize that you are not making even remotely enough of an impact to change the time frame on which they will release their movies on Blu-Ray. If 'I am Legend' was a movie that you were more interested in seeing than 'Cloverfield', then your decision makes sense. If you would have otherwise rather seen 'Cloverfield', but chose 'I am Legend' instead based on some boycott, then you really need to rethink your priorities.

It's not really so much a 'slap in the face' as much as it is a business decision. It's fine to disagree with it, but we all know that the writing is on the wall, and sooner or later they will be putting movies out on Blu-Ray anyway. It's not like they are personally trying to attack you, yet you (and others like you) seem to take it so personally.

Would it be nice if their movies were on Blu-Ray right now? Sure. But, they will be on Blu-Ray sooner or later anyway. At this point, Paramount is still locked in with a contract (as far as we know). They likely would have jumped ship by now if they could (or they may be planning to as we speak if they do indeed have an out clause).

If you really want to make an impact at all, you should at least write a letter to these studios letting them know what you are doing with your money that you would be spending on seeing their movies if they were releasing them on Blu-Ray. While it probably still wouldn't make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, at least they would get the message. Otherwise, your just cheating yourself out of seeing movies that you might actually enjoy if you'd get past your 'issues' with the studios in question. It doesn't make much sense to me.

Default My Message to the big wigs

There are things that I am doing as MY PART to Generating Blu Ray Profits.

I was going to the theatre to see the most anticipated movie out there right now. that move was cloverfield. I do under stand that this movie was made by the same people that support HD-DVD. so I say.

1) If you feel the need that you want to WATCH this movie then by all means go and watch it.
2) If you feel that this is a movie that you want in your collection, then DO NOT BUY IT.

Rent it meaning go to your blockbuster or rogers home video

this is what I am doing in my part to promote Blu ray sales

what are you doing?

United we stand, Divided we fall.

I am doing this until they do switch to Blu.

Paramount/Universal already know they're missing out on a load of profits by not releasing on blu. Boycotting their movies at the theatres isn't going to tell them anything they don't already know.

I had seen Cloverfield and Sweeny Todd at the theaters on the first day, I just want to say, I would definitely buy them on Blu-ray. I also want the Bee Movie and Beowulf, which I had seen at the theaters. And nothing is going to stop me from seeing Iron Man.

Just want to chime in here.

The rental industry does work under a profit sharing net. The company in question still gets some of your money every time you rent their title. Rentals produce some nice income as well... Which is why the profit share reports and why Blockbuster and Hastings [initial] reports were so favorable to the format war.

No offense to those here but boycotting the movies in the theater is asinine.
Boycott the home video releases, boycott the swag, whatever but boycotting the movies in the theater hurts the wrong people.
It hurts the movies crew, it hurts the writer, it hurts the director, it hurts the guy who delivers the lunch, it hurts the actors but it affects the studios very little in the scheme of things.
You want decent movies made you support the people making the movies, they are not involved in some petty interweb movie format BS.
The boycott banner is right up there with internet petitions in the grand festival of fools.
no what is asinine is making an argument where you state that the person delivering lunch somehow will be hurt if we don't go to the theatre while he won't if we don't buy the DVD. The people that have fixed income won't be hurt what ever we do and the people that get a % of sales will get it on any revenue stream no matter where it comes from.

Also no one wants to hurt the person that has nothing to do with it, but there is no way of showing Paramount our displeasure with them not giving a sh!t about their customers. Their customers gave them a loud answer (their BD's were selling much better) but they decided to not care.

I don't boycott the theater, there is no clear message sent that way all they know is they didn't get all the sales they were expecting, they may interpret that many different ways, however Paramount when they finally start selling Blu-ray again, I'll be boycotting them for 6 months due to how they abandoned us so quickly without warning...
yes and no, now I don't think that there are enough of us to make a big difference, but if ALL titles of one studio are boycotted by enough people someone would have to start thinking (be it the CEO, the BOD, the owner....) we are doing something wrong. Now obviously, like I said, our numbers might not be that big and the change is not that far away, but in the end a corporation only understands $ and that is the only tool anyone has.

For me it is not about making a difference but the self-satisfaction that I am not played for a 100% fool of "I can sh!t in your water and you will drink it because I said so"

Are BD fans seriously talking about boycotting the Indy movie? I thought that we'd get it on BD, since it's Spielberg-directed. I'd support the movie on that count, if I weren't planning to see it already.

can't talk about others but for me Indy is not in the boycott for the exact reason you mentioned. On the other hand my guess is that there won't need to be a boycott by the time it comes out
