Default Advise for a friend about a HDTV purchise

My friend is thinking about getting into the HD world sometime this year. He is asking me advise on what to get. He knows he will get a PS3, what TV is out there that is affordable and takes "full" advantage of this great product. I know LCD and it shouldnt be much more than 32 in model. Should it be full 1080p or can a 720p be ok? Any help.

how close will he be to the TV in typical viewing situations?

imo, unless he's sitting so close that he's hurting his eyes, 720p/1080i should be good enough on a 32" tv.

Agreed. At 32" 1080p really isn't offering anything more than 720p/1080i. Besides, that'll sync nicely if he gets HD Cable/satellite.

Default stay with 720p

on a 32" set he would be throwing money away getting a 1080p set. you would not see the difference between 720p and 1080p even if you stood right in front of it. it takes a much larger set to see any kind of difference between the two. those that say they can see a difference also complain that their light bulbs flicker too much @60 cycles per second. just kidding!!!

yeah, as far as what brand, though I have a panny plasma, I hear that Samsung and Sony make the best LCD's. I'm not positive, but I think Samsung and Sony build their TV's in the same wherehouses. So which ever one you can get the best deal on of the two, buy it. They're using pretty much the same material...
I could be wrong.

They are made in the same factory Sony just uses slightly different cases and menu system. The Sony's will tend to be slightly nicer as far as color adjustments go then the Samsung though that is merely personal preference.
