Default Would it be worth it to buy an HD DVD player if I find one for little over $100?

I know Blu Ray will be the winner but there are movies I want to see in HD now like Transformers, Beowulf, American Gangster. Is it worth it? Or will Bluray win before the Summer comes?

Just wait. It would be a waste of $100 for an inferior format.

No you're wasting your money picking that up. What films would you buy? 2? maybe 3? Tops? don't do it.

Nah, that will be $100 down the drain you will never get back. Universal will come on board later in the year.

And maybe you can pick up a DIVX player for under 20 bucks if you can find one.

For an upconverting DVD player, maybe. MAYBE. The PS3 does a pretty darn good job at that. As for HD DVD movies? No. I think that within the next couple of years, every exclusive that HD DVD has now will find its way onto Blu-ray once it has all studios behind it.

If the A35 drops down to $100 or when Toshiba declares Blu Ray the winner, I'd pick one up.

Lets say the three movies are 25 each. Thats 75, plus 100 for the player.

Save the 175, and by Christmas time. Use it to buy 7 movies you want instead of just 3 on HDDVD discs now.

No way! You will waste your money, but most importantly, they will think they are having a "comeback" and keep dragging this "war" nonsense even longer.

For a 100 bucks, you'd get a player with 7 movies. That alone should pay for the player itself.

I'm not trying to promote HD-DVD, but I wouldn't mind picking one up once Blu is declared the winner. I don't want this war to be prolonged any more than it needs to.

Simple answer NO! Why not buy more Blu Ray movies with that $ 100 rather than buying into a format as it is about to die. Plus it will show Toshiba that there fomat won't sell simply because it's cheap.

Why not if you really want them? Might as well wait until Amazon or Best Buy has one of those "Get 3 free instantly" in addition to the ones in the box so you can grab a few. After all what is wrong with more electronics I like having a lot of cool stuff.

for someone that thinks people that own a few BDs are wasting money you sure seem happy to waste money on HD DVD.

You want my answer? NO. Just wait till all of them come to BD. This is exactly what toshiba wants (to get more consumer), and thus with buying it, you'll prolong the format war. I'd rather buy a Sony upconverter than Toshiba "DVD upconverter"

Until Tosh concedes defeat by producing a blu player, I'd ask that nobody buy HDDVD players. sales for them only prolongs the war and entices you to buy content not currently available on blu-ray.
