Not surprisingly, it looks exactly like the Magnavox.

It doesn't say what titles are eligible or if the coupons can be applied to sale prices. It'll be interesting to find out these details.

Exactly. Who would pay $350 for anything from Insignia?

I agree, $50 more will get you a better player and a gaming machine.

A lot of people are NOT interested in a gaming console as their movie player. I am not one of them, but does not change the fatcs.

Exactly!
Do the math. You could easily buy 50 Blu-ray discs in the next year, which would cost a minimum of $1,200. In 2 years you could have $2,500 invested.
Why not buy a good player as it will eventually be a small part of the total investment?

It's not a gaming console, its a multimedia player.

Well today I bought the Magnavox BD player from Walmart for $298. It loads discs fairly well and quickly without errors. I bought this because I'm in a tight budget and can't afford a PS3 yet.

Default Insignia coupon book

Picked up this player last weekend and got a 12% discount with the Reward Zone Memorial Day Weekend coupon. Shame the 12% couldn't have been used for a PS3, but I'm pretty happy with the player so far and around $300 pre tax was my maximum buy in anyway. It also has a better warranty than Funai's for the Magnavox.

The coupon book is good for Disney Blu rays. Coupons expire Feb 2009. Basically it is a lot of buy 2, get $10 off deals that can't be combined with other offers. Think you would have better luck paying Amazon prices or an in store B2G1F deal.

Just went to Best Buy yesterday... here in Canada they are selling them for $399... same price as a PS3 (which was sold out actually).

With no disc tray and "pinch rollers" to grab the disc.
I hope no particles get on the rollers to scratch/pit the discs.
Great hand warmer to on the those cold winter mornings.

Still though, I agree that I personally wouldn't pay more than $299 for an Insignia brand player.

Q:
What kind of standard waranty did they supply ?

The PS3 has been out 1.5 years and there are many people on this forum that own hundreds of movies and have never had an issue with the disc loading mechanism of the PS3. I have owned mine for almost 1 year and own well over 100 Blu-Ray discs and have never had any issues. My PS3 runs circles around the two HD DVD players that I own as well as the other BD standalone player that I have owned (Samsung BDP1000).

Do you have any proof that people are having issues with this (disc loading mechanism)? And the PS3 during Father's Day is $399 at Wal-Mart with a $100 gift card. No way I would take any Funai player at that price point...

One year parts and labor. Just drop a problem player off at a Best Buy and they do the rest.

The Funai one for the Magnavox was 90 days parts / 1 year labor at one of their designated facilities (of which there were very few listed in California at least).

I work at Best Buy and we got them in today and all home theater associates laughed their ass off. I can also confirm that the book is all "$10 off two select blu-rays" with the exception of $10 off Lost Season 3.

Also at only $50 cheaper, a PS3 is alot better, more flexible, more output options, etc. I don't understand the whole "set top" idea as the PS3 looks nice (way better than if the 360 had blu-ray installed) and the movies will load up instantly and fast.

Since you work at BB, can I ask you this question
I bought PS3 on the 22nd May, so every one is talking about the Walmart father day sale PS3 for $399 + $100 gift card. Can I bring in the receipt and the ads to price match or return it to get one at walmart . Thanks advance for your advice

BB will not match a promotional offer (i.e. purchase this and get this). Your only option is to buy it at Wal-Mart and then pack up your existing PS3 in the box and return it with your receipt to BB. There are no open box or restocking fees on returns for game hardware and have 30 days to return it.

Where'd you all see this ad about the $100 gift card with purchase of PS3? I can't find anything on the Wal Mart website about that.
