I've read a lot of your posts regarding 1080p sets... I've narrowed it down to one of two. The Sony KDS-50A2000 50" rear projection or the Sony KDL-40V2500 LCD 40"...
Questions: one, does the rear projection take a bulb and if so, how much does that cost? secondy, do the SXRD sets suffer from the vieweing angle problems like crt rear projection TV's? My ultimate choice would be a Pioneer Elite Plasma, but I only have about $2000 bucks to spend on a television. I'd appreciate any input or comparisons of the two sets I mentioned. I respect your opinions! |

i have the sony 50e2000. i have to say i couldn't be happier to this point. yes, i would have loved 1080p. however, i couldn't justify the extra money. as for the bulb, it is $250 i believe. also, i'm not sure but one or two lines comes with a backup bulb. the other thing to remember is that the bulb is good for 8000 hours. if u somehow are able to watch 10 hrs of t.v. a day, that bulb will last ~2.2 years. so, not a huge concern. for the money, i like the a2000 personally. plus, u get 10 more inches.

I HAVE to have a 1080p set... I'm really leaning towards the SXRD ... I just wonder if the Bravia is going to have a brighter picture with better viewing angle. I figured the Blu-ray forum would be a good place to ask since I'm going to be watching LOTSA BD movies on the TV I purchase.
So again, KDS-50A2000 or KDL-40V2500? Thanks... |

SXRD has better contrast ratio and better response time then the BRAVIA and is ideal for movie watching. The only real advantage of the BRAVIA is that it is nice and thin and can be hung on the wall. I would go with a SXRD rear projector over LCD any day. I don’t like the contrast ratio’s on LCD and the response time. Of course Sony has one of the best LCD’s on the market for contrast ratio. The SXRD has the same 10,000:1 contrast ratio as a 1080P Pioneer Plasma with the added benefit of the SXRD being 2.5 ms response time. JVC also has a nice LCOS rear projector that some claim has a slightly better picture quality then Sony.
The bulb replacement every 2-3 years is a small price to pay for the awesome picture of SXRD or other brands of LCOS. If you do get a rear projector it is strongly recommended to connect a UPS for power backup. When you turn the projector off a fan runs to cool down the bulb. If the electricity goes off while your watching a rear projector then bulb life can be cut up to 20% since the fan can not run when the power is off. The Sony SXRD KDS50A2000 can be purchased for under $1600 by mail order from various companies. Always use a credit card for your protection if you choose this option. Advantages of retail stores is you can return stuff in 30 days if you don’t want the item. http://www.calibex.com/KDS_-_50A2000...B46C6B00713B78 |

Plasma’s have really good viewing angles like CRT’s. LCD’s and rear projectors on the market viewing angles are not as good as CRT or Plasma. The SXRD viewing angle is good but not as good as a CRT or Plasma. You really have to be way off to the side to start losing brightness to notice the SXRD viewing angle limitations. This is not a issues for most people since LCD and rear projectors have made major improvemnets in this area over the years.

I just purchased an XBR3 40" LCD a week ago and must say that the set is more than I expected. I sold my 34" CRT SONY HD Wide-Screen to a friend. Going from the CRT to the LCD was much easier this time around. When I got the CRT (three years ago) the LCD set just couldn't keep up. But this set (XBR3 40" LCD) can produce an incredible picture. It's time to go thin!
This set can be purchased for $2300.00 |

We went with 60" SXRD A2000 and I'm very very happy with it. It looks fabulous with satellite, blu-ray and PS3 games. Lots of controls to adjust the picture to your liking. Don't know much about the bravia so can't comment.
We had a 43" rear projection previously so we wanted a larger screen this time around and the RPTV just can't be beat for value in that respect. The 1080p inputs were important as well. |

For picture quality Front and Rear projector 1080P’s are the best on the market.
If you can afford it and have the room the bigger the display the more you will see the quality differences of 1080P. You can get Sony KDS-R70XBR2 top of the line 70 inch set for around $4,000 delivered. This has one way QAM tuner with cable card and free onscreen interactive TV guide. http://www.calibex.com/KDS_-_R70XBR2...0--search-html That might be more then you were willing to spend. The Sony KDS-R60XBR2 is their second best rear projection. It also has a one way QAM tuner with cablecard and up to 8 day free TV guide like the 70 inch. Price is only around $2600 delivered, this is a good deal. http://www.calibex.com/KDS_-_R60XBR2...0--search-html Now the Sony KDS-60A2000 is only around $2,000 delivered depending on who you purchase the set from over the Internet. For this $600 drop in price compared to the KDS-R60XB2, you lose the free on screen TV guide and cablecard feature. You still get ATSC/QAM tuner for in the clear over the air and cable channels. The cable card and TV guide is not an important feature to some people since they already have a HDTV cable box or satellite receiver. All current models of TV’s on the market including Sony that offer the cablecard feature have only one way QAM tuners that do not allow people to watch video on demand programming and PPV, so most people do not use the cable card feature. The KDS-50A2000, KDS-55A2000, and KDS-60A2000 are exactly the same set accept the only deference is the screen size. KDS-60A2000 (Around $2,000 delivered) KDS-55A2000 (Around $1750 delivered) KDS-50A2000 (Around $1600 delivered) Home Theater magazine sometimes has rated the JVC LCOS rear projectors with overall better picture quality then Sony’s SXRD. You can get a 70 inch 1080P JVC for under $3,000 delivered. http://www.calibex.com/HD_-_70FH97/z...0--search-html Here is the Link to JVC 1080P monitors home page. You can get a nice 56 inch JVC for under $1500. http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?produ...502&pathId=125 Last edited by HDTV1080P; 02-14-2007 at 05:13 AM. |
