One of the best movies of 06 IMO...along with the Departed and Blood Diamond.
Glad to hear the BD will look stellar.

I wonder how many of these killer aps it will take to bury HDDVD once and for all.

The HDDUD guys have gotta be getting pissed. I mean, how could you call yourself a hometheatre enthusiast, but then cripple yourself by remaining an exclusive HDDVD supporter...

Pure nonsense!

Many,...it seems as HD DVD evangelists are already spinning the release of this title, since they claim to be able to import the disc via Warner Bros. from Europe.

I'm sure they'll have an excuse for Cars, and POTC, and others until ultimately their format is buried, and their excuses and spin will be buried with them.

Isn't that the first 5/5 from him for Blu-ray?

And Joe 6p isn't going to order titles from overseas. They are going to look in the movie isle at BB and discover it isn't available on hd-dvd.

This is the factor that the MS-DVD zealots forget. J6P or even the average consumer doesn't spend time on the internet ordering discs from other countries or Amazon. They goto their local B&M retailer and buy what they can find, and what do they see when they step inside of their local B&M? Blu-ray.

I'm glad you picked up on this "logic" too. I was going to post something similar on AVS a while ago, but what's the point?

How does someone get to the point where they'd rather import than just jump into BD? Those types of posts are great because they let us know who to put on ignore over at AVS, because they lose all credibility for posting such nonsense.

You know at one point after CES, if you looked at the trainwreck that was the HD DVD software section over there, there were more than a few posts/threads talking about which titles only on BD in North America would be available for import at a higher price.

And, for the record, even if Universal were to release on BD in Japan but not North America, I wouldn't pay more to import it. Though I suspect that it will never come to this.

As far as The Prestige goes, good movie. But once you'e seen it, I'm not sure of the replay value. I might rent it just to see if I can pick up on the subtle clues I missed the first time around & also to sample the A/V quality.

You know, I give ratings based on "overall" not on PQ alone.

Heh. Still I'm really looking forward to this disc bigtime.

A convenient Ignore candidates list

"Owned HD-DVD from the beginning and plan on staying that way." - 180 people!

Anyone on that list is a candidate. It's a who's who of HD DVD zealots with their head planted firmly, umm, somewhere.

As you can see, Blu-ray should be quaking:

"Owned Blu-Ray and converted to HD-DVD" - 1
"Own Blu-Ray and am debating on switching to HD-DVD" - 4

Oh no!!!
