Default EB games and Microsoft in a stalemate over broken 360's?

I was wondering why EB/Gamestop no longer offered warranties through the store and I think this pretty much sums it up. Ouch is the only word that come to mind when I think about the possibility of 8+ mil in broken 360's

Microsoft refusing to take 10 million worth of defective 360's from EB

It says "Rumor" at the top ...

.. which means, "We don't fact-check."

That's what happens when you push an inferior console and attempt to dissuade consumers from purchasing the PS3. You get stuck with your just desserts.

I am aware of the "rumor" at the top of the page. This comes from one of their Aus. Editors from an EB employee. The 40GB PS3 was a rumor as was many other things that all came true like the Dual Shock 3. The fact is EB does not offer in store warranties, and all of a sudden stopped them they even sent me an email about it with one of their weekly deals. The other fact is EB was pitching a ***** over this a while back. "rumor" or not I am calling this legit.

OK.. btw I just noticed your sig which may explain a few things ... Is that true, 11 (eleven) 360s in 9 months? That's totally unacceptable.

Urgh. That would suck to have 11 units in 9 months that didn't work as well as it should. Unacceptable is putting it mildly.

On a side note, I tried a Wikipedia search for "Red Ring of Death" and it brought up an article on technical problems.

at one point the local EB games was refusing to stock 360's because of the volume of 360's that were coming back then they decided to restock when they extended the warranty to 3-4 for the red rings of death.

So you got one launch 360 for free? Gift, prize, or those goofy advertising promotions?

Just interesting.

Well , I used to be a DM for EB/Gamestop. They gave us all a free 360, somehow I ended up with 2 when one of my other managers didnt come to the show and didnt get his.

Erm, so by Gamestop doing what would typically be considered a goodwill gesture towards the customers (taking back returns from customers for a product with a high failure rate instead of telling them to go talk to the hardware producer), they should have to eat the cost for all the products?

it kinda sucks for EB....... They accepted the returns themselves, rather than forcing thousands of customers to go through Microsoft's support network.... some people may be mad at microsoft but imagine if you owned your own business and another company that sells your product collected 250,000+ of your product without verifying the defect and showed up at your back door and said can you check these and see if they covered under our warranty or yours....I am sure they will work something out.....

11 boxes in 9 months is a little hard to believe and if it is true you have very bad luck and I am surprised your house hasn't burned down and if it has or does I am sorry for submitting this....

Do you really believe EB/gamestop took these in on good faith? As a former DM For the company i can tell you , Each customer had to pay $50 for the warranty, and then another $50 if they wanted to cover it again. It was EB's over eager warranty plans that FORCED them to take back those systems, as these customers had warranties with EB to be able to exchange them at the store level. This is a case where EB/Gamestops over eagerness to get warranties from customers ( which ill have you know, have a typical 95% unused rate, so 95% of the warranties EB sells are just pure profit) has bit them in the butt. Same thing happened with the ps2 ( big fat one, not the slim). We stopped issuing warranties for a period on them because the returns on the big ps2 were just ridiculous, more than what we saw for 360, and sony was refusing to take them back as well. Then Sony issued the slim and most of those problems went away, and they decided to warranty them again.

exactly! One of the biggest profit makers for EB/Gamestop is the GPG. Thats the GamePlayGuarantee or warranty they sell on games. $1 for games 0-9.99.
$2 for games 10.00-24.99. $3 for games 25.00 and up. We sold TONS of them and something like 1% were ever exchanged in the company. The main problem was that you HAD to keep your receipt for it to be effective, as that was the only proof of the warranty, we did not keep records of it.
