The Witch-King is dead, the Eye of Sauron fell off Mount Doom and the One Ring was destroyed. Try again. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love LoTR and consider it to be the best trilogy ever but I think a better question would be who would win, an army of orcs or an army of Omaticaya?

Star Wars all the way simply because of technology. (granted the Ewoks defeated the Empire, but that is an exception).

However, things can get stickier when the Force goes against magic (Witch King vs Jedi, the One Ring, etc....). Still think SW would win because of the Ultimate Power in the Universe

Obviously Star Wars would win, but I have a question. Several folks are saying one (or two) Jedi would wipe out 10,000 orcs. Is this one orc at a time over a period of many years or is it blitz style all at once? Is this Jedi firing from the Death Star? Otherwise, I just don't see it happening.

And yes, my co-workers will make fun of me when I tell them that I got involved in an online discussion about Star Wars vs LOTR.

Obi-Wan is more like Billbo Baggins to me, and Yoda is Gandalf, with Saruman being Vader and The Emperor being Sauron.

Also, are you just saying Lucas copied LotR, or has this actually been said

I could easily see Jedi carving their way through entire hoards of orcs, swinging their lightsabers and cutting them down like butter. Just like they did to the hoards of battle-droids. The orcs could easily be disarmed as their shields, spears, and swords are cut down with extreme ease; their arrows could be deflected by the Force (and maybe even thrown back at the orcs). And when the orcs loose their advantage, they tend to get skittish, and retreat.

Yep yep yep, Lucas ripped off Kurosawa, Tolkien, classic sci-fi, WWII and Roman history. I saw in an interview that he freely admits to borrowing from other stories, with the excuse that there are only so many types of stories that can be told and there is no true originality anywhere.

So...what? This is a contest of unit supremacy, not a contest of originality.

Not to mention, the Emperor Palpatine is supposed to be the most powerful Force user in the "Star Wars" lore. He could summon Force storms, electrocute people, manipulate lesser minds, and he used the Force to hide things for decades. Him, combined with Darth Vader, could put up a damn good fight against Sauron, Saruman, the Witch King, and anybody else (especially if their power relies on a bunch of silly rings ).

The "LOTR" magic users never really used their magic in the same way "Star Wars" Force users do.

To be devil's advocate here, I have to say Gandalf and Sauron are really immortal so that has to be taken into consideration. Also Gandalf and Sauron both possess enough power to reshape the face of Middle Earth, no idea why Sauron didn't but Gandalf was not allowed to. He was only allowed to use his power to help the force of good win against the force of evil. Still think the Chancellor is more powerful, just saying you're discounting the powers of the Middle Earth sorcerers.

I dunno, I've never seen a Storm Trooper actually shoot anything they aimed at. And all Jedi's or Sith seem to do is die.

I'll go with the underdog, Lord of the Rings. Besides...

...they have a cave troll.

That's quite true. On the other hand, Palpatine was something of an immortal, since he came back to life in the Expanded Universe. And some of the other Jedi (Yoda, Obi-Wan,
[Show spoiler]Anakin
) took on ethereal forms too.

We might have to take this conflict to the afterlife too...

.............yep, can't argue against that.

Haven't seen any of the "Clerks" movies, so I can't comment on that either.

He also read a lot of mythological books by a guy named Joseph Campbell. He was honestly attempting to make a true mythic story structure with all of the token mythological archetypes.

Star Wars for sure. The technology alone would decimate the entire Middle Earth. One push of the button on the Death Star...

It is Canon that NOTHING can kill a Sith except another Sith, or Sith to be (Anikan took down Dooku as a final part of his training, though he didn't realize it and Darth Maul was never a real Sith as quoted by Dooku in the Revenge book, more a Dark Jedi, an "animal" he called him).

Sauron was taken down by a man. Saruman's army was defeated by trees which could be easily destroyed by the Clone Army or a single Jedi or Sith, or advanced weapon (see the Planet Devatators from the comics).
