The dueling magician comedy Burt Wonderstone is currently filming in the magical land of mysticism that is Las Vegas, and some set photos from the pic have started to surface. Just the other day we brought you images that gave us our first look at stars Steve Carell, Olivia Wilde, and Steve Buscemi, and now we’ve got a glimpse of Jim Carrey’s very douchey-looking magician character. Carell stars as the titular Vegas magician who loses his partner and then has to compete with a hipper magician (Carrey). In the previous set photos, Carell’s character looked to be channeling David Blaine in a dangerous-looking trick. These images of Carrey evoke another popular mainstream “magician”: Criss Angel.

While the premise could easily be turned into a lame, cheap joke comedy, the cast involved here compounded with the ridiculous-looking set photos have me hopeful that we’re in for a really good time once Burt Wonderstone opens. Don Scardino (30 Rock) is directing, and Burt Wonderstone is set for release sometime in 2013.

This could end up being really funny or really stupid, but I'll likely give it a shot given the cast. While I'm not as big of a Steve Carrell fan as some, I have liked him in both Get Smart and Crazy, Stupid, Love and love both of those movies. Add Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, and Steve Buscemi as support for this and I'm on board.

i feel the same way, hoping its the the former.

I'm with both of you, and really hoping it ends up being great. Carrell and Carrey were great together in Bruce Almighty. Looking forward to seeing them working together again.

Jim Carrey is fantastic, but am not very fond of S.Carrell, although I enjoyed them in Bruce Almighty, and he wasn't annoying in Crazy, Stupid, Love, so here is hoping it's going to be fun.

Such a great cast. I don't have any doubts about this being funny. I didn't know so many people here didn't care for Steve Carrel. I think he is pretty great.

it is a great cast, but i have doubts because neither Carrey nor Carrell have made a good movie in a pretty long time. Jim Carreys funniest movies are among the best comedies of all time and Steve Carrell has some a few solid movies and one of the funniest TV characters of all time but again nothing too recently. the potential is there, but the odds are stacked against it being the hilarious movie it should be in my opinion. still hoping for the best.

It's a romantic comedy, but it's not like the vast majority of romantic comedies that follow the usual template. Also, with the two leads both being male, it easily appeals to both sexes.

The lack of romantic comedies in your collection makes it rough, but I have no problem saying it's a good movie.

im not opposed to the idea of a romantic comdey outright, they just dont usually appeal to me so i dont really seek them out. maybe ill check it out. i mean i happen to be sitting here watching Annie Hall while im typing this which i guess could be considered a romantic comedy of sorts.

I'll have to wait for a trailer. I'm afraid that I'm going to see a type of Prestige spoof with this one like Walk Hard did with Walk The Line. If it's anything of that sort, I'll be dissapointed.

I do have faith though. I do love Carrey and Carrell in almost everything they do. I hope it's a bit more of a serious comedy though.
