I started another thread called "The Force is No Longer with Uncle George" and having read some of the responses which are mixed oficourse, one member brought up After the 3D films are re-issued Lucas will go back and make Episodes VII-IX. That one will always be open to debate. So I ask, if in fact the live action movies did come back and Uncle George allowed another writer and director to helm each installment, who would be your pick for the sequel trilogy.
Episode VII - Heir to the Empire - Directed by JJ Abrams Episode VIII - Dark Force Rising - Directed by Guillermo del Toro Episode IX - The Last Command - Directed by Steven Spielberg Episode VII - since Abrams breathed new life into Star Trek, why not Star Wars. It's been proved you don't have to have the the 'geek' knowledge to make it work, just the ability to have strong characters and a good amount of sci-fi action. Episode VIII - Del Toro simple choice because of his fine attention to detail, not to mention this is the "Empire Strikes Back" version of this story. Dark and lots of suspense. Plus he would have a strong blueprint from Abrams Episode to build from. Episode IX - I've always wondered what a SW film would be like if Speilberg was to direct. He's not known for script writting, but his direction is in a league all to his own. He would be the icing on the cake to a fine Sequel Trilogy. Casting: Mark Hamill has aged into his Obi-Wan Jedi status therefore justifies his return. Carrie Fisher, not as young as she used to be, but with some hard work and lipo, could easliy play the older wiser Lea. Harrison Ford, He would be the hardest one to convince. Even with wads of money waived in his face. But there's no denying how cool it would be to see Han Solo shoot first and ask questions later. |

The casting wouldn't really work though as the story only takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi.
I doubt they'd want to change that as they've always stated the novels are cannon and the general plots are approved by Lucas or his representatives etc. So making it take place say 20 or 30 years after ROTJ would erase all the other novels that take place in that time span. I'd guess if they ever make episodes 7-9, it will take place after all the current novels. Feature Luke as an old man in an Obi-Wan/Yoda role leading a rebuilt Jedi Order against some new threat. No Trawn Trilogy.
I couldn't imagine anything worse. If there's another story to tell, I'd like it to be about the original Sith/Jedi wars, something that's relevant to the story of Star Wars. But that's just my preference! REX Last edited by rexington; 01-18-2012 at 08:05 PM. Reason: added text |

Anyways, Id rather the SAME director take care of all three films. The books are good so there IS good material to work with there. To me its more important to call out who we do NOT want directing them. Id say to avoid: David Fincher, Terry Malick, Mike Bay, & Christopher Nolan. Everyone else is OK. Better yet, why not get some new blood in the franchise? How about an up and coming or an independent director? Wht not the Thrawn stuff? Its pretty filmable and has a solid storyline. A few things can always be changed around too if need be. That being said, the story of Darth Bane and the original Sith stuff is freegin cool too. Plus, you dont have to worry about whos gonna play Luke, Han, Leia, etc, etc. The I, Jedi book series is also really good. TONS of great material out there to carry on or add to the Star Wars world. I was never a big fan of the Thrawn books. As a kid, I really dug Kevin J Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy, and I always felt that would be a badass movie trilogy.
![]() As it is...I think Michael Bay could direct a badass "Star Wars" movie trilogy. ![]() |

Good ideas. Some great directors brought up too. All the sequel books and comics were great in their own right.
But wouldn't everyone prefer a new story, with the same level of secrecy of production that other Star Wars movies have had? Maybe one set far enough into the future that they could use the same actors for major characters (as suggested above) without spending too much money on Benjamin Button-ing them (unfortunately they probably will have to kill Han...)? |

The post ROTJ novels are pretty sequential though. This series starts 5 years after ROTJ, and the books just go from there without really any gaps that I can recall in the timeline. I think they're 30 some years after ROTJ currently--but not sure as I haven't read any for years--quit partway into the New Jedi Order series as I was losing interest. That was probably 10 years or so ago. EDIT: The books are indeed 30 some years past ROTJ. The timeline on the site linked below has them at 42 years past the Battle of Yevin (end of A New Hope) currently. And I was right that there isn't really much unaccounted for time in that period. http://starwarschicks.com/expanded-universe-timeline/ Last edited by dmaul1114; 01-19-2012 at 01:31 AM. |

Ah, I wasn't aware there was a comic series that took place way after the novels.
So yeah, that would work. As I was saying above, if they did 7-9 and wanted them to involve the OT characters, they'd have to put them 30-40 years into the future when Luke, Han etc. were all pretty old and have a story that takes place after the novels--and before those Cade Skywalker stories. That way they aren't having to erase any extended university cannon material. |

Nolan is the same in terms of the cleverness of his films, however, he has directed big budget action with the batman films and inception and is an exceptional screenplay / script writer / developer. |

*IF* there were to be a sequel trilogy, I find it hard to beleive it would be based on pre-existing novels. It'd more likely be something that has not yet been published.
I do like the idea of returning to the original characters at their ages now with the original actors. One of the things that made the OT great was the use of additional writers and directors to help refine the vision. There are plenty of working directors that I'd be thrilled to see, but Fincher, Nolan, Brad Bird, Wachowskis, Aronofsky, Verbinsky, Boyle, Singer all could brign an interesting take. |
