Default When 1440P Coming Over U.S?

Okay,
So after buying my XBR3, I felt a little bad to realize that the XBR4/5 look even better. I know that you can't play catch up with technology (unless you're filthy rich and like to blow money), but when do you think the U.S will adopt anything beyond 1080P?? Or OLED as standard?

Generally speaking, what and when do you think they next mind blowing technology be? Just curious

Maybe your grandchildren will have 1440p. It took about 60 years to get where we are now & still HDtv's & HD stuff (HD channels , BD players & HD OTA) is still a small market. Sales for HDtv are picking up fast, but still most HDtv's are not hooked-up to any HD source.

OLED, I am looking forword too these TV's & hopefuly Sony & Samung in a few years (3-4years) will beable to make a 60"+ one for under $3K. As time goes by people will, should, beable to get a 60"+ OLED for under $2K. OLED is cheeper to make then LCD & Plasma, the but part is OLED needs to be made in a Oxygen Free environment, because if the O in the OLED in exposed Oxygen, it's lifespan is Greatly reduced. So far Samsung had a Demo 32" at the CES this year & Sony just had a 11" & 26"(?). Sony will have the 11" for sale in a few months in the US, Samsung has not said when they will release an OLED, but they will eather late this year or next year.

I seriously doubt OLED will be a standard anytime soon. Like all of the current picks of TV technology, it's probably going to be just another option to choose from. As far as 1440p, broadcast station have already voiced that the transmission for 1080p signals are too expensive at the moment. 1440p??? I wouldn't hold my breath.

I can't see it for years down the road. I don't think we can say yet that we have even made the jump to 1080P. Remember there are alot of non HD sets still out there and the signal has not be swicthed by the feds yet. They have pushed the date back once so we will see what happens next Feb.

Now you're dreaming. We still can't get a 60" LCD for less than that!
