Default 7.1/ 6.1 Audio setup question

I have a 6.1 system installed yet my amp is 7.1, so how should
I wire the rear speaker?

I have heard to wire it as a mono channel for the two rears in a 7.1?

What receiver do you have?

...and no, if youre receiver trully is 7.1 you do not want to wire it as mono rears.

Your owner's manual should tell you where to connect a single rear speaker, and if you have an autocalibrate feature, you will probably get an error message, if you do it wrong.

ah, ok I see what hes trying to accomplish.

my bad, yeah, I think on some receivers they designate either the left or the right rear to use in 6.1 setup...as jstein said, check the manual.

its a Marantz 7001.

I had my house prewired for 6.1 system, with the three surrounds in the ceiling.
Only bad thing is that my house is two story so there is no easy way to add that 7th speaker.

You can cut a hole in the drywall pretty easily, but I'm guessing that your 6th speaker is centered down the middle of your listening area. The addition of another speaker will make the soundfield lop-sided. I think you are pretty much SOL, just send one rear channel from the reciever to that 6th speaker, thats about all you can do.
