![]() ![]() New promotional artwork for the film. I'm really impressed with the quality. I really like John Lasser's higher bar of quality. Do you guys think it will get a blu release? It hasn't been announced at all but I have my fingers crossed. The animation would look great in HD. p.s. On the subject of Disney, did you guys know that starting with Aladdin, the hand drawn films were made on a digital system? That means those transfers will be digital to digital when it comes to blu. Yay! |

I'm out of the loop in terms of most recent animation (with the obvious exceptions of Cars, Ratatouille and a few others). I didn't know that so many sequels were being made. What a shame. There are so many great traditional folk and fairy tales out there that have never seen the light of film. Likewise there are many Russian fairy tales which have been made into films, but could be remade with more modern technology. I guess what I'm saying is that there is a vast treasury of stories that could be put to film without resorting to making contrived sequels.
Corpse Bride is one example of a recent adaptation of a traditional folk tale to film. I mean, it can be done! |

Mmm I doubt it. Disney is reluctant when it comes to these type of titles. I mean I could be wrong, but I don't see it being released on Blu the same time as DVD. They've been promoting this movie for about a year now and there's been no mention of Blu-ray anywhere.

Since Disney went under new management, the remaining three 'sequels' have seen a much higher quality in production. |

A sneak peak of the film has just been released today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrZIhpzNsQQ The animation is excellent and they used the character model sheets. We get to see Ariel's mother and what happened to her in this clip. I can't stress how happy I am with the animation. It looks even better than the original in some ways. It doesn't have quite the same feeling of the first but seems to be great in its own way. What do you guys think? Compared to Disney's other shitty sequels, this one (and Cind 3) seem like gold. Jodi Benson returns as Ariel but Triton is voiced by someone else. It would have been great to have the original Triton but for whatever reason he could not return. Last edited by Mermen79; 03-11-2008 at 12:56 AM. |

Disney has two types of sequels...
Type A is the rushed out the door sequels, where they get fill in voice casts and half ass the production values. Type B is rarer, where they get the original cast and actually make some effort with the production. This one at least is leaning towards B. |

The cover for the DVD has just been released:
![]() It follows in the same vein of Disney animated covers in the past few years: super cluttered and pretty ugly. Ariel is also off-model but at least the film itself remains much more faithful to the original animation than TLM2 did. |

The thing with all these sequels is that Disney is a very greedy corporation and it knows that most of the classic Disney characters have become a franchise.
I think I would correct this sentence as follows: "The thing with all these sequels is that former CEO Michael Eisner ran the studio like a Wal-Mart and viewed anything in the Disney library as a possible franchise property ripe for exploitation." I understand the Disney studios needed to modernize their business models after the death of Walt and the malaise of the 70's and early 80's, but the treatment of such classics of the animated art as Lady and the Tramp bordered on forced prostitution. |
