Default Question on disc production

Okay I have a long question but Id appreciate if someone knows whats up :D

I know companies like TDK, Sony etc are mass producing blu rays for general use.

Say a game developer like Squaresoft makes Final fantasy 13. How do they get the blu ray discs for their game and how does the game get onto the discs? Does squaresoft order a quantity of discs and put the game on themselves with writable drives? Or do they send the game to sony or whoever and have them mass produce it? Do they use single write discs or a different kind?

Is this the same for movies?

Or they open their own manufacturing line or they just buy their discs...
It happens with DVD and CD discs all the time... There are way less factories than companies who sell them :!:
(Even companies who have their own manufacturing line buy from other companies ops: )

This may come as a shock to you, but many cd's and dvd's are not burned, as consumers burn them. They are stamped.

Burning takes too long even with power towers that do nothing but burn them all day. Too prone to error, not to mention engery used to burn.

Yep, stamped. That's why on RARE occasions a cd or dvd ships completely blank.

How does that work in the case of ps3 games. Say vivendi makes a game do they send a copy to like TDK or someone to have it stamped out onto discs? Do game developers have to buy their own stamping equipment?

I assume so.

There are only few manufacturing lines of consumer recordable DVDs!

I have no idea about the manufacturing lines of blank DVDs to be pressed.. However I assume they press their DVDs themselves... As it is total different equiment, no?

Any got some information about this? :?
