What ever happened to Drop Dead Fred?
I remember seeing it for $9 at Target, but I got it from Papa Johns Pizza for free, probably in 2004. It is a cult classic!
Anyways, I read that Russel Brand will be Fred in the remake of the movie.
Universal currently has the rights for the remake, but I have no idea who has the rights to the 1991 film, (I believe) Lionsgate no longer has the rights, I'm not sure if they went back to New Line Cinema (Warner Bros) or if Universal, but they need to release this movie on Blu-Ray too instead of a terribly cropped DVD.

Actually, think the remake died when the studio thought the Arthur remake would be a safer bet to give Russell Brand that million-dollar breakout career.

You mean that you saw it at Target prior to 2004, correct? I have been trying to find it for my wife but it is impossible to find and it's like $40-50 on Amazon.

Actually, I think the dvd was open matte, so not that much information was lost. But I'd buy the blu-ray in a heartbeat if it ever happened--Phoebe Cates is a stunner.

I adore the movie although I wish we'd gotten an extended version where we got to visit Fred's world. So many great themes and character growth. But eh, it's not to everyones tastes.
